Just have them return in the Royal Rumble match (preferably with Tarver and Sheffield) and dominate the whole thing as a team. Then they can either to make sure Barrett wins or if you want a Russo swerve they could eliminate everybody else and then step over the rope together so there's no winner/nine winners.

To be honest, I don't see why you would even want to salvage a stable that couldn't beat one guy. The only way to do it would be to make the "bigger picture" turning Cena violent and hateful and all of the losses and events leading up to the chair burial were a huge Xanatos Gambit. This is a pretty archetypical thing for a villain to do to a rival like Cena and would actually make sense.
Of course the chance to do that went out the window when John Cena came out the night after brutalizing and beating a man after he had already won the match to a huge standing ovation and proceeded to dance around and make fat jokes.

It's as over as Spirit Squad. One difference might be there is a real breakouter in Wade Barrett (maybe Otunga mid-card). Proof: Where are the Spirit Squaders now? So they were the template for this type of "pack" that can some and go. DX was once much bigger but is more remembered as the surviving duo and they both are retired except for special appearances

have barrett, otunga, harris, gabriel, nd slater enter and dominate the rumble, but then 'taker's gong sounds, the lights go out, and when they come back on, every slips up behind nexus and throws them out.
at wrestlemania, taker vs. barrett, streak and career vs. nexus' survival. barrett loses when he tries to hit taker with Wasteland only for otunga to hang him up on the top rope and taker turns it into a tombstone and wins. then you move on and have barrett/otunga for a couple of months.

Unless there is Nexus shenangins, there is no way Undertaker is gonna be made to look weak (aka Barrett would have won the match clean if it weren't for betrayal) with possibility of Undertaker-Cena in the WM after next.

Take Husky and McGillicutty out into a lowcard feud. Bring abck Tarver and Sheffield, and then have a feud between Nexus (Barrett, Tarver and Sheffield) and Wolfpac-esque Nexus (Otunga, Slater and Gabriel)

Have Wade Barrett return, explaining that the Nexus will not return because he ATE THEM AND THEIR BRAINS, thus absorbing their powers. Gabriel's agility and abilities for high-flying, Heath's finishers and...girly habits, Otunga's leery eyes and masturbating habit, Husky "Bluto" Harris ' tendency for toga parties and smiling like a damn idiot and Hennig's hability for spinning neckbreakers and ruined promos. Together, he calls himself a faction of one....the Super Barrett a la Super Shredder. He then eats the brains in storyline of characters that are fired or released, absorbing their powers. He then wins the tag titles by himself, the U.S Title which he calls the United Kingdom Title and proceeds to use Primo Colon as his dumb lackey.
Needless to say, that leads to Super Barrett vs SUper Undertaker at Super Wrestlemania 27 or WrestleMania 27 version 1.5.

As awful as this may sound, follow me here. They need a chick.
They need another mouthpiece who is very attractive, yet is dastardly evil. John Cena can't bring himself to hit a woman, but she can goad him every week. Plus, a hot chick is the only way most of those guys are getting over without Barrett. And if they do a double-cross, she can trade out Barrett for the new leader of Nexus (probably Otunga) and she can have Lita level heat circa lentling Edge era, and therefore push Barrett as a mega face.

Nope. She's had enough spotlight this year thank you very much. Get Maxine from NXT 3 involved. She looked hot in a Nexus shirt.

It's too late. Nothing they can do now can salvage the opportunities that have been lost; they just need to g'head and let it fade away.

OK, finally here's my plan. I know I'll catch flak for it, but I'd have Nexus survive (to a degree) through SummerSlam before they're disbanded. Nexus returns leading up to the Rumble and all of them enter the match. Triple H returns during the match and helps Cena clean house with Nexus while also going after Sheamus. The final four come down to Sheamus, HHH, Cena and Barrett. HHH eliminates Sheamus, but an irate Sheamus interferes allowing Cena to eliminate him leaving Cena and Barrett. HHH pulls a sledgehammer from under the ring and chases Sheamus off before returning to chase off Nexus who decided to surround the ring. Cena eliminates Barrett, the fans go wild, the faces win again.
The next night on Raw, Miz comes out with Riley bragging about his win over John Morrison the night before. Morrison comes out to cut a promo before both men are interrupted by Barrett and Nexus. Barrett says he may not have won the Rumble, but that's only small obstacle. He's going to take the title anyway he can and once he's done with him, HHH is next. Barrett bashes HHH for getting involved in Nexus business, and if he's not careful, he'll do what Sheamus couldn't and retire him for good. Nexus then starts to beat down Miz and Morrison before HHH runs in. Nexus hold their ground and start attacking HHH. Cena runs in for the save, but Sheamus comes behind him to help Nexus. The Raw GM chimes in and makes the main event for Elimination Chamber: Miz vs Morrison vs Cena vs HHH vs Sheamus vs Wade Barrett.
At the PPV, Miz eliminates Morrison and HHH eliminates Sheamus. Alex Riley goes to slip a foreign object to the Miz, but holds the object so Miz can't back up. Riley smiles before letting go as Miz turns right into the Wasteland. Riley pulls off his shirt to show a Nexus shirt. This leaves HHH, Cena and Barrett. All three men brutalize each other before Cena hits the AA on HHH and pins him. Barrett immediately goes on the offensive. Later, Cena goes to hit the AA on Barrett, but Barrett fights out of it and quickly hits the Wasteland on Cena. Barrett gets the pin, completely shocking the crowd and we have a new WWE Champion. Nexus opens the chamber and swarms in helping Barrett celebrate. They continue beating down Cena before HHH runs back in with the sledgehammer to chase Nexus off. HHH and Cena stand united against Nexus...but suddenly HHH plasters Cena with the sledge and then Pedigrees him. He and Barrett hug before Wade hits Cena with one more Wasteland. HHH and Nexus stand united to end the PPV.
The next night on Raw, HHH is officially in Nexus, shirt and all. He cuts a promo about how he came to Barrett and the rest of the NXT rookies to make an impact. He saw the abuse that the rookies were being put through on NXT and it sickened him. He remembered what it was like working his way up in the business and how it felt to be abused and treated like garbage. The rookies were all too willing to join up with him to treat the rest of the WWE roster just like how they were treated, especially John Cena. Nexus took the fight to everyone...Cena, Orton, Sheamus...all of Triple H's enemies. None made him happier though than what happened to the Undertaker. Taker ended the career of HHH's closest friend and he paid for it dearly. Cena comes out and says he's glad he waited to decide who to use his title shot on. He then goes straight for Barrett and HHH, running right through the rest of Nexus to get to them. Nexus attacks Cena as Morrison runs in to help. A newly face Sheamus enters the fight as well. The three of them fight hard but the numbers are not in their favor. Miz' music hits and he runs in with a steel chair and attacks any Nexus member he can get his hands on. Riley ducks and bolts for it as Miz gives chase.
Leading up to Mania, HHH and Barrett continue to play mind games with Cena. Morrison and Miz team up and Miz makes amends with Daniel Bryan. The three of them feud with Riley, Husky and McGillicutty leading into Mania in a six man tag match. Gabriel and Slater feud with the tag champs and are in a four way elimination match for the tag titles. During a beatdown of Cena by Barrett and HHH, Undertaker returns and goes after HHH. This leads to HHH vs Taker at Mania. Sheamus confronts Taker and wants to prove himself against him, and at the same time he wants revenge on HHH. Taker stares into Sheamus eyes, sees the same hatred he has for HHH and agrees to make it a three way.
At Mania, Miz, Morrison and Bryan defeat Nexus...Gabriel and Slater fail to win back the tag titles...Undertaker pins HHH and shows respect to Sheamus for his battle...Cena defeats Barrett for the WWE Title due to botched interference by David Otunga.
The next night, HHH throws Otunga out of Nexus and Barrett demands his rematch for Extreme Rules. Barrett loses again, but he gets one more shot at Over the Limit. Cena pulls through again and the next night, HHH rips into Barrett. Barrett stands up to HHH and gets a pedigree for his troubles. Slater and Gabriel are reluctant to join in the beatdown, but Riley, Husky and McGillicutty have no problem doing the job. Not long after, Slater and Gabriel quit Nexus and get beatdown for the road. HHH restocks Nexus with some new members from NXT2 and NXT4 and changes the name of the group to Genesis. (Thank McGillicutty for suggesting the name to him.)
At Fatal 4 Way, HHH wins the title from Cena in the main event. Genesis assaults him to end the show, putting him out for a bit. The next night, Barrett returns and does hit and runs on Genesis much like the ones Cena did to Nexus. Barrett seeks out Otunga and tries to make peace with him, saying both of their egos got in their way. Otunga says they have a mutual enemy and shakes Barrett's hand and says he has a plan. Barrett enters the Money in the Bank match at it's PPV and wins. Genesis comes after a wounded Barrett and attacks. Otunga walks down the rampway with a mic and gets their attention. He says they may have tried to destroy Nexus, but they're going down on their own terms when they decide. As he walks to the ring, Gabriel, Slater, Skip Sheffield, Michael Tarver, Darren Young and Daniel Bryan all jump the barricade and surround the ring. Otunga nods and they take the fight to Genesis.
The next night, HHH challenges Nexus to a match at SummerSlam, winner takes all...loser is disbanded for good. Only problem is that Genesis has eight members and Nexus only seven. No one in the WWE locker room trusts Nexus yet, even with their hatred of Genesis and HHH. Two weeks until the PPV, HHH says that if Nexus doesn't have an eighth member tonight, they must automatically forfeit the match and disband. At the end of the show, HHH demands he name an eighth member. Barrett is about to say he doesn't have one when Cena's music hits. He rushes the ring and unloads on HHH sending him from the ring. Cena reaches into his shorts pocket, pulls out a Nexus armband and puts it on. The next week, Cena tells Barrett that he's earned his respect by taking the fight to Genesis and doing things the right way. He may have hated him, but he hates HHH and Genesis more and it'd be an honor going into battle with him as a member of Nexus, win or lose.
The match comes down to HHH remaining for Genesis and Cena and Barrett for Nexus. HHH pedigrees Cena and pins him for the elimination. HHH goes to hit the Pedigree on Barrett, but Barrett grabs his legs and blocks it...only to quickly counter and lift him into the Wasteland for the win. Genesis disbands and Nexus calls it quits the next night on Raw in a promo. Barrett later uses his MITB title shot to take the title from HHH...after demanding the match weeks ahead of time. Cena salutes him after the match.
Whew. A lot of stuff to read I know, but that's how I'd keep it going and finish them off.

I guess I'm the odd man out here, I think Nexus has been booked well for the most part. I don't know why the angle with Cena was so rushed, but I haven't had any problems with it otherwise. People keep saying they lost 7 on 1 to Cena, but that's not how it happened at all. He took out individual members with sneak attacks, and at times Cena had backup and actually outnumbered members of Nexus. I think they will go on to feud with someone else. My guess is they will do something with Undertaker or Kane, or possibly the focus will shift to issues within the Nexus. Jim Ross agrees with me. He said so in his blog, though he didn't mention me specifically.

A disheveled Barrett returns on RAW and challenges Cena to one final match. During the match, the rest of Nexus come down and surround the ring... only to let a perplexed Cena walk away unscatched, before viciously beating down Barrett themselves. Can't believe this got overlooked. It's basically perfect -- Barrett's shown through this whole thing that he cares only for himself and is using Nexus to further his own agenda / quest for the title. I'm still waiting for the day they all turn on him, just like this, Hyenas-on-Scar style.

I'd have Barrett return after Mania as a standalone guy, and garadually phase the others into positions suited for them, such as a feud with Evan Bourne for Justin Gabriel, that kind of thing.

C.M Punk announces he no longer will commentate a show in which John Cena is on. Thus signs a contract in which he competes on RAW and commentates Smackdown.
Nexus goes to Smackdown reunited with old Nexus members and new ones from NXT season-whatever. This changes the dynamic on Smackdown completely with Nexus suddenly wreaking havoc on Smackdown! similar to RAW.
As Punk feuds with Cena on RAW, and Nexus with Smackdown! (and eventually Undertaker on Smackdown (Through vignettes, thunder, etc) it's revealed Punk was the Mastermind behind the Nexus, sacrificing himself on that first knew to ensure no one would suspect him. The bigger picture being to take out the old-guard of RAW and Smackdown.
At WrestleMania, the Mastermind behind the Nexus C.m Punk takes on John Cena. While the Nexus takes on however many members of Smackdown and The Undertaker. (So as to not overwork Taker.
(It'd be ideal if Brock Lesnar refereed the Smackdown one and it could be hinted he's part of Nexus but that'll never happen.)
So with this, Nexus gets a climactic ending, Punk is probably elevated (win or lose) by facing Cena as an active performer while commentating on Smackdown and sharpening his tool at that.

Barrett would get the title, use Nexus to do nothing but protect him and the title, he drops it at Mania to Cena, fails to regain it at Extreme Rules, takes it out on Nexus, gets destroyed by them for being a jerk.
