Sometimes it's just really hard, you know. I mean, to know that there are people, entire groups of people, who hate you. They don't even know you, and yet they hate you, because of who you love. But, if we just gave into the haters, then they'd win. So we get up every day, and we fight. We fight back by living our lives as we know we should, we do what's right, and we stand proud. You have to be brave to be gay. It really is sad that the gay stereotype is weak, girly, sissies. Because if you ask me, we're pretty damn tough to put up with all the s***. Do you ever acutally think about it though? I don't think I have ever woken up thinking 'wow, there are bigots out there that hate me today!' I guess I just dont care enough. Generally, unless it's right in my face, I couldn't care less and don't consider it worth worrying about. I know, self centered much!

I think a lot of it depends on where you live... I mean, I'm an hour from San Fran, I very rarely have to worry about dealing with bigots because it's just not socially acceptable here to act that way. I get the occasional run-in with them, but it's not something that I encounter on a daily basis so it's not really on my mind.
I'm sure that people who live in other areas though, places that have a lot more open hate, probably think about it a lot more. I've been in only one situation where I actually felt that my safety was compromised (it was a at a wrestling event, surprise) - I can't imagine feeling like that on a more regular basis because of the attitudes of the people around you. I'd go crazy.

I live in a town, no scratch that, a county that is so backwards it's unbelivable.
No Gay Community, not even in the nearest Cityh.
But I've never had a problem with "Bigots" because I don't let my sexuality rule my life and what I do in my private life stays private.

There's your first mistake.
You've lived there long enough to pick up a regional accent, time to move down south now!

I live with a father who is not accepting at all, in a backwards hick rural part of Pennsylvania. Attitudes have evolved, but bigotry still exists and I have been kicked out of places because I'm gay. It's something I deal with about every day.

Legion! I did move down south! For two years in fact, I went and moved with my mam to Bedfordshire, into an even more backwards town! But I'm Northern and proud and my accent is awesome

I dont know where Bedfordshire is. Is it North of London, because frankly, even that is up north to me!
When I sa move South, I essentially mean South coast.
And accents are always awesome.

I'm in Nevada which has a different culture than most places if you live in the citites like Reno or Las Vegas. I mean it's a state that legalizes gambling and prostitution for crying out loud.

It's a known fact that being a gay teen is tough. High school ain't the place to be outed.
What can be done to make gays more acceptable to straights?
I think they're bombarded with too many bad stereotypes in pop culture. Let them see more gays that are just like their jock, sportsloving, action and horror fan selves.
