Just a question.. if it just became socially or legally acceptable for 12 years old tobe the age of consent would a show like this seen as unfair in the future. I mean we pick a random number age-wise to be a consenting for intercourse, why couldnt we just change it?

Just a question.. if it just became socially or legally acceptable for 12 years old tobe the age of consent would a show like this seen as unfair in the future. I mean we pick a random number age-wise to be a consenting for intercourse, why couldnt we just change it? A lot of it relates to brain development. 18 is a weird number too, as essentially, if someone is 17 and then they turn 18, their brain doesn't automatically change into something different, nor the body. Same with places who have lower age of consent, 16 for example. One hour before, the body doesn't magically transform, but I think the main reason it's there is legal lines must be drawn somewhere, even if it does seem a tad unfair, as the person really isn't any different But yeah, with 12, like, I try to think back to when I was 12. I guess like, I'm not gay either, and usually it's men who go online looking for sex with younger people, so I can't see from a female perspective, but I could try from that of a male's. But, you're generally attracted to a lot of different people, whether you're hot for teacher, classmates, etc (when I was 12/13 I had a major crush on this one chick, who is actually a friend of mine still to this day). And I think with that, the reasoning part of the brain hasn't developed to that of an adult, so it's really unfair for the kid, and they're being taken advantage of. But then again, all kids mature at different paces, and someone may not be that mature at the age of 18, but I guess the lines has to be drawn somewhere. One positive, in a real sick sense I guess, is that the men who come are from all walks of life. You can't really stereotype any group for being more prone to be a predator, no matter the race, religion, sexual orientation, social status, age, whatever. Every group has their share of sick f***s, and maybe that can help bring us all together

I dunno, everyone has their stuff they aren't so proud of doing and some of it is plain reprehensible, but does it really need to be put on TV for our entertainment and (more importantly) for a company's profit? The stings still go on without the cameras watching so it kinda seems like the show is for your own amusements rather than any sort of righteous crusade about protecting kids.

Chris Hansen has seen more pictures of penises than any other straight man on this earth. I tip my hat to him for going through that kind of hell.

I wish they would do another season... It's just pure entertainment. I know that what they're doing is "unfair" but if you're trying to bang a 12 year old boy you deserve it Amen.

My question isnt on "wanting" its on the fact we pick a random age as the point were it's OK to consent to sex where many people are probably mature enough at a younger age, and many arent anywhere near ready emotionally at 18. I mean I'll be honest hearing about a 20-something year old guy trying to have sex with a 14 year old girl strikes me as disgusting but maybe thats just because I've been taught that it is

My favourite was the Cat Guy who they got to strip naked before entering I had no sympathy, the guy wanted a 14 year old girl to perform a sex act on a cat.

I think putting it on tv has its positives in deterrence. I don't think deterrence works in many cases which may not be discussed I guess for political reasons, but taking advantage of a kid seems to be the worst of the worst. So, exposing that person on television, and the potential of being seen by everyone, family, friends, whatever, people may think twice about doing that.
A lot has to be fixed with a show like that. Egos have to be put in check. The idea of blowing it up and making it big for tv has to be put in check. I think it was mentioned in this thread, but I think some of the appeal is people can see themselves in the perps, not in regards to doing sexual acts with minors, but getting your hand caught in the cookie jar if you will. Anyone, no matter how old, can relate to being caught doing something you're not supposed to do. Add to that to the shock and surprise of seeing someone do such insane things, add that to seeing people doing something illegal, add that to the popularity of crime dramas where they go into detail on how someone got caught and the steps going towards that, it does make for the perfect tv show.

I find that incredibly hilarious when Chris reads the transcripts... "I love to *bleep* a young man deep *bleep* and *bleep* n *bleep*". The bleeps just make it humorous.

Quoted for the truthiest f***ing truth I've ever seen on a message board. No sympathy for these assholes and no, it's not "entrapment". These guys are doing this on their own and I like that at the very least, To Catch A Predator plasters their name and face all over TV. Except for the fact that guy never actually showed up so there is no way to know his true intentions. Let's also not forget that these stings draw pedophiles by the dozen into a neighborhood that has no choice but would rather them not be there We don't know hiis true intentions? Bullshit, I don't care if he shows up or not, you never for any reason talk like that to a child. I don't care if it's through the keyboard, people need to be held responsible for their actions.

Agreed 100% I'm just wondering how anyone can sympathize with these people.
