What kind of madness is this?! They are killing the school lunch trade!!! THEY ARE CUTTING THE HEAD OFF THE DOPE-SNAKE! Also, the thought of a Star Wars ship sandwich going uneaten pains my heart. A lot of time and effort probably went into that.

How wonderfully draconian. Especially when a lot of school lunch programs are not exactly bastions of nutrition.

Y'know this is do-gooding gone too far yes by all means promote healthy eating but banning homemade packed lunches is ridiculous at the end of the day its the parents decision what food is suitable for their kids not the schools and the fact that this school has done this is an insult to the parents intelligence.
If the school had any common sense they would have offered parents the option to move their kids onto the healthy eating lunch menu not just outright ban any luches from home.

I don't think this will hold up in court

All the students (or at least a large amount) should just start showing up with home made lunches. Seriously, what could the schools possibly do if most of their students did this?

What about the kids who can't afford school lunches? Are they expected to starve?

So i guess vegetarians are out of luck, as are the kids whose religion has dietary rules.

This is freaking stupid. There can't be any way they can legally deny a child a lunch.
I brown bagged it until high school, because it was cheaper, and better food. A sandwich, chips and some kind of juice is better than what most schools serve.

Personally, I worked a (reusable) bottle of water, fruit salad and a protein bar for most of my grad year - I dare you to find a school lunch that's healthier than that.

No, but the food experts that they hire do.

No, but the food experts that they hire do. 1) It's hard to get anything even resembling a healthy lunch in school, ever. 2) "Everybody knows what's best for you". It's such a slippery slope. If food experts want to divulge information to help parents make better decisions, that's one thing. If parents are being told "your child can only eat what we say", then that's more freedom lost.
