Because Vince thinks he's creating a Hollywood studio and wants to make his zoo animals, I mean wrestle.....I mean SPORTS ENTERTAINERS, into a brand.
If Otunga's nice, fat, and happy, Jennifer Hudson's more likely to give them even the slightest bit of recognition.
Funny thing, though, is if Jennifer Hudson has a really bad day, and dumps Otunga, you will see the quickest ejection of David Otunga since Gorilla to Bobby Heenan on Heenan's last night.

Well, Percy Watson debuted in 2009 also. He's far, far superior at everything than Otunga. I'll agree ring-wise. On the mic, I find Watson really, really annoying more than anything. Now, Husky Harris - there's a 2009 debut who totally outclasses Otunga. I agree with you on Husky. But I don't mind that they gave it to Otunga. How many guys in their first year wrestling not only make it to WWE's main roster, but take part in the biggest angle of the year and (even if it was brief) hold a title? I can't stand the guy either, but it's not surprising.

You guys are forgetting he is the reason this whole bigger picture angle started.

You guys are forgetting he is the reason this whole bigger picture angle started. Is he the reason it stopped being mentioned and will probably never be revealed?

Here's how I see this hypothetical scenario go down: Sunday: "TMZ: Jennifer Hudson has filed for divorce from her husband" Monday Night: "RAW Results: Nexus leader CM Punk launched David Otunga out of the arena with a catapult after Otunga lost to Yoshi Tatsu in 11 seconds." Tuesday Morning: "WWE.com: We wish David Otunga well in all future endeavors."

That's exactly where everyone's "he's married to a real celebrity" argument comes in. WWE wouldn't have put this guy near the main roster if he were just another guy in developmental. They know full and well how terrible he is, hence how much he's been protected over the past year. Outside of NXT, I can't think of him having even one singles match. He's always in tag situations, and usually only tags in to do a sloppy vertical suplex, then tag out.

Seems quite pathetic. He was the least impressive out of the NXT guys.

Whether we like it or not he does have a personality or at least a presence. His dissension in the ranks of Nexus was interesting, and the way he sold the Big Show beating was really good.
I dunno I'm starting to like the guy

it is possible we don't see what WWE does in him, after all Miz was horrible when he first showed up and here we are a few years later and he's WWE champion

Reminds me of a scene on Seinfeld
Elaine: Maybe there's more to Newman than meets the eye
Jerry: No, there's less.

I love David Otunga. I think he's unintentionally funny, it's just hard for me to not like him.

I think people are missing that PWI rookie of the year is awarded to person who is their 1st years in the business (maybe I'm wrong). Barrett have been in the business (British and Irish feds) for pretty a while even though he debuted along with Otunga. I don't think nobody (who debuted in the business this year) probably has much prominence as Otunga. I think the PWI rule is actually "In their first two years of active competition", which still disqualifies Barrett, yeah, but just adding some clarification. I was pretty close with my theory.

The headline would probably read "David Otunga is gone now, nothing to see here"

Not a good showing either.

He's married to some C-list (pushing it) celebrity and Vince is hoping that she'll somehow, some way, someday give the WWE some scrap of mainstream publicity. The minute that either Hudson files for divorce or Vince wakes up and sees that he's not going to get any mainstream publicity out of all of this, Otunga will be squashed and out the door.

if this has been Otunga's first year in the sport, then I have to give him some props. He is terrible, but he hasn't really embarrassed himself in the ring all that much-- if at all
He's also been a part of one of the biggest angles in years, and held his own tremendously when it came to performing the non-wrestling parts of the storyline. I think a lot of other rookies (including some now legends, current superstars, and HOF members) might have dropped the ball on that one if they had to do it in their first year

This the reason why Otunga won the award this. Not because being Jennifer Hudson's baby daddy. Not because of his C-list reality fame. Because readers of PWI voted for him to win it. Everyone else in the original Nexus has been wrestling a lot longer than him. So they are not qualified for the Rookie of the Year ballot. Just because you win the award doesn't automatically make you a star.
Prince Iaukea 911 Vampire Warrior Maven Zack Gowen Hornswoggle Erik Watts
All of these guys won the award. How many were successful? How many deserve the award? Kurt Angle, Goldberg,The Giant, Randy Orton, and Steve Austin also won, too. When Orton won in 2001, the runners up were Brock Lesnar, K-Kwik, and the Prototype. All those guys went on a made a name for themselves. Otunga can either go on to be the next big thing or the biggest bust since Nathan Jones.

Phew, what a list to be reckoned with from Iaukea to Watts there. When 'Swaggle is the most over of the grouping by leaps and bounds, that's pretty sad.
