Sorry about any bitterness because of my new profile layout. It hurts that Mother 3 wasn't brought over here, but there's the slight solace of having an English fan translation that may very well be better than any official translation Nintendo could put forth. It was done with so much love and care, and it really shows. Hope you enjoy The Last Story, PAL players! From the gameplay video I watched it looks like something interesting but that you'd have to play to really see if it was good or not, so I hope it turns out great. That's good news about Ni no Kuni as well, at least we're getting a version of it. Kind of weird that Bamco's publishing it though, I thought Level-5 had opened their own publishing branch over here a la Atlus USA and NIS America.

I don't do ROMs so the fan translation isn't an option for me. If only the price for the game wasn't so high, it'd be the one time I'd get the Japanese version and use a translated script to play it.

Currently in the middle of playing Catherine, then I think I'll play through FFXIII again before finally plopping down the dough on XIII-2. Can't wait for Ni no Kuni to come out.

I originally had a section there about how Mother 3, Fire Emblem 6, and Seiken Densetsu 3 are the only games I still play via emulator, but I don't even really do that regularly anymore, haha. My first experience with Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, FFVI and the like was via emulators as I didn't have an SNES, but I eventually moved to fan translations of stuff that got passed over here and later just stopped pretty much entirely, except for rare occasions. Still hoping Mother 3 will see a legitimate release over here though, likely via 3DS VC at this point. Anyway, Atlus has another announcement tease, and it looks like the folks over at GAF have already cracked it: {Spoiler} (check the left side of the logo) Good news if true. Hope you're enjoying Catherine, Koda, it's certainly unique.

I'm enjoying the story and the characters(I like how no one, save for maybe Toby, and possibly Erica, is a good person, everyone is a f***ing douchebag, it's so gloriously realistic! ), however, the puzzles are a f***ing bitch......I scoffed when I read about people bitching about the difficulty of the puzzles, they weren't kidding. I'm playing on the easiest setting there is and I'm still having trouble with the puzzles......

Why don't you two like using roms? Is it a moral thing or do you just not like playing on a PC? I only tend to use roms if they're the only realistic option but I bought a GBA flashcart so I could play Mother 3 on my micro.

I'm playing on the easiest setting there is and I'm still having trouble with the puzzles...... Given that I've yet to play the game (I spoiled the first couple of stages for myself via Youtube, couldn't resist haha) and am either incredibly good or absolutely terrible with block puzzles with no real middle ground, sounds like I've got something to look forward to when I can play it. Why don't you two like using roms? Is it a moral thing or do you just not like playing on a PC? I only tend to use roms if they're the only realistic option but I bought a GBA flashcart so I could play Mother 3 on my micro. Pretty much the only stuff I've been playing via emulator since 2003ish is fan translations of varying quality of SFC/GBA/Famicom games (also of varying quality) that never made it over here. (And Terranigma, lucky Europeans. ) As the interesting stuff that wasn't translated for those systems dried up my interest has largely waned as well, I guess. I actually hadn't given it much thought until you asked, it's just been a gradual thing. There's also EarthBound and Ogre Battle but those games are near impossible to find for anything less than a small fortune, so yeah.

I haven't heard too much about it aside from the characters and a little bit about the story. Why don't you two like using roms? Is it a moral thing or do you just not like playing on a PC? The new Suikoden debuted this week in Japan at no. 1 in the sales chart, with over 60k units sold.
Now, Konami, release the damn thing worldwide! (even if I don't have a PSP and therefor wouldn't be able to play the game)

Congrats to it, but that's less than Tierkreis' first week figures and it's still a poor replacement for Suikoden VI. Any Suikoden game that isn't Suikoden VI will be.
Anyway, I'm here to vent, but it'll be short. I f***ing hate CE boxes sometimes. The Trails in the Sky Premium Edition box is a bitch and a half to actually open to get at the case and other stuff, and the other boxed games I have aren't far behind. Oh, there's also the special badge you get with LoH's Premium Edition that fell through the bottom of the box and warped it a little when I went to put the UMD case back in...*sigh*

Mine will be coming a little bit later because I went with free shipping. Can't wait though - it seemed like the release date was really far away when I pre-ordered and now it's nearly here.
The continuation of everything that isn't main-series Suikoden is awful. Outside of Mother 3, Suikoden VI is the game I want the most, especially if it would be as good as V. I think IV sank the series in terms of main console games, at least for now. That game was pretty bad.

IV does strike me as a game that initially started as a new IP but became Suikoden fairly early in its development. I don't think that it's a bad RPG, it's just a fairly average JRPG in a series that has always been very good or better. And of course, I think that a combination of IV and unrelated portable spinoffs have done a lot of damage to the Suikoden Franchise. Still, it's terrible that Suikoden Tactics was a far better Suikoden installment than IV. Just expanded on the lore of the series and had a far more interesting storyline at that.

Pretty much my feelings about IV. It's not really a bad RPG at all, but it is a bad Suikoden game. About the "started as original IP" theory, I tend to think the developers just s*** the bed due to it being the first game without input from the series' creator/writer/producer/director, though considering the rushed feel of IV you might be right. I wonder how much of Murayama's original vision for the Suikoden series survived his departure, if any. And it is funny/sad that Tactics, a game in which the Japanese version had no ties whatsoever to the Suikoden series, fleshes out its part of the series better than IV did. It's also sad that Suikoden V, a terrific return to form, had to be punished for its predecessor's relative lack of quality sales-wise. On the bright side, Junko Kawano's character designs in IV are MUCH better than her designs in the first game.

Well yeah, but everyone hates Krin and that's not just because of his design.
