I can't think of many RPG characters that I dislike more than Krin.

The Last Story is coming to North America, courtesy of XSEED. Source is this Nintendo Direct video. They're pushing for a summer release. Finally going to start up Devil Survivor today, freaking Tactics Ogre and your CODA episodes. I need to let's survive! Also, forgot to comment on this. Just saying. Oh, and obligatory lol Krin. What a creep/jerkoff, and he's useless in battle.

Not a JRPG (but it's been talked about here), but 999's sequel, Good People Die, has been confirmed for a late 2012 NA release. Still no real interest in a 3DS, but a possible day one buy anyway due to how much I loved 999.

Just saw this yesterday - the iTunes App store has the 1992 Shin Megami Tensei available for $13.99. It's Japanese-only.

Shin Megami Tensei II does everything the first does, but so much better. That said, you can fuse your dog with a demon to make Cerberus, so...

Been playing The Last Story since yesterday. It's more restricting/linear than I thought it would be and overall the game seems to be going with story events at 200 Km/h. Even so, I've liked what I've been playing of it.
The only thing I really don't like is that the damn thing only works when it feels like it. I never had problems with Brawl, Xenoblade or any other game. But this? I have to reset the damn console about 20 times for it to read the damn disk!

Yeah, I'm about 5 hours in and alot of stuff has happened. I like it though, it's refreshing to play a JRPG with this kind of pacing. Really liking the battle system and the music, imo, is Uematsu's best work in a while. Great game overall, a bit easy sor far, but great game none the less. Also, I've had no trouble with the disk reading.

Yeah, the music is top notch. I noticed that the theme when you go to the arena is really similar to one of FFVIII/FFIX's (can't remember which) battle themes (namely when you're being chased by something. It usually plays during that whole scene as well). I've already encountered a boss that gives some trouble (QUICK magic (2-4 seconds always), summons reinforcements and teleport). Good thing it doesn't teleport if you use a crossbow

So, PAL gamers. I've heard that The Last Story has some pretty serious framerate issues--is it true? It's not a dealkiller or anything, just curious.

It happens sometimes, yes. If there's lots of enemies and special magic attacks going around all at once, and considering disk reading is slower than normal since it's a dual layer DVD, you get some big framerate drops, but they're usually momentary.

Thanks. Sounds like people were making it out as worse than it is. Should I be surprised? Also, Devil Survivor 2 is heeeeere! 3 save slots, major problem fixed right off the bat. And I like the music more than the first game's so far.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment PSP announced. May 17th in Japan, and it seems they're handling it just like Innocent Sin PSP, remixed soundtrack and all. now hope that there'll be a UMD release if/when it comes over here

I'm pretty sure that it counts as a JRPG but anyways, I'm so stuck in Valkyria Chronicles II.
I'm on the last August mission (whoever have played it know which one) and all of the respawning V2's are such a pain in my ass. Still, I figured out that I can brute force my way through them thanks to my Gunners and Elite Fencers.

Since I went with free shipping my copy of Devil Survivor 2 should be here by next Monday. Can't wait to get started on it, everything I've been reading about it sounds awesome. I need to pick up Valkyria Chronicles II at some point, the first game is one of my favorites. How is II compared to the first?

I played VCII for a bit and then it again became part of my (now embarrassingly large) backlog. Sorry I can't help you. Speaking of my backlog, it's making me terrible when it comes to finishing games. I need to work on that.

I need to pick up Valkyria Chronicles II at some point, the first game is one of my favorites. How is II compared to the first? Everything that I've heard is that it's even better then the first because it expanded on all of the mechanics of the original, additional character development for your squad with the only thing being sacrificed being graphics and sound quality.

I think it was the Baldren mission, yeah. Pain in the ass either way. Nearing the end of Wednesday on DS2. The game's noticeably harder than the first; the bosses can be real tricksy hobbitses and regular enemies generally pose more of a threat due to status spam, plus some mission objectives can be surprisingly touchy due to placement/reinforcements. It feels more like Persona than the first game's classic-SMT leanings too, but this is in no way a bad thing. Also, I say "nearing the end" of Wednesday because the first time I fought the boss, I got crushed into the ground. I need to go back and rework my preparations. Amazing, amazing game so far though.

I got my copy of DS2 yesterday, but I haven't played much of it yet. Any non-spoiler tips? Mainly in the best way to set the main character up.

After having a magic nuke MC in the first game, I went with a STR/AGI-based build and it works surprisingly well; I'm almost at Thursday's end and there's not a sight of null/drain/repel phys yet outside of bosses (oh, and one special demon), it's more balanced than the first in that regard. Any build you'd like is really good, though, because there are more than enough great magic and physical attackers from your party to back you up.
One tip is that the strength stat affects defense in DS2 along with vitality, so the higher your STR the less phys damage you'll take. Likewise with the magic stat and spells.
Another big tip: they removed the Magnetite system in DS2, so you can't reassign skills to your demons after you've fused them. Fuse wisely!

Beat Devil Survivor 2 last night, on to new game plus! I was afraid I'd suffer burnout after playing through both Devil Survivor games in a row, but nothing of the sort happened. So addicting, fun, and great, can't wait to go through it all again. The final boss is a pain in the ass though, haha. I've got to say, I'm really impressed with the demon selection in this game, it's on par with Soul Hackers and Strange Journey overall. Seeing Jeanne d'Arc in an SMT again really warmed my heart, and there are a lot of other demons that have scarcely been used in the franchise that get represented here. The Compendium descriptions are a little more robust than usual also, it makes for good reading. There's more I'd like to talk about, but I don't want to get into potential gameplay or plot spoilers.
