I'm trying to think of other sports stars who are considered the face of their league despite being a total bust when it comes to the big games, but I can't think of any at the moment. Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl, if that counts. Also, A-Rod was for a long time before he won the World Series a couple of years ago.

Until those 2002 playoffs, Barry Bonds was hideous in the playoffs and still never ended up with a World Series. Also had a Miami-esque collapse in those playoffs.

'Twas a bit of a joke, but I think the ultimate story of this year's Finals, barring some sensational performances in the next two games, is LeBron James' completely disappearing when it mattered the most in the NBA Finals. Sad thing is, right now, I think that's the story of his career. He's like the Phil Mickelson of basketball. I'm trying to think of other sports stars who are considered the face of their league despite being a total bust when it comes to the big games, but I can't think of any at the moment. Closest thing I can think of is Michelle Wie. She wasn't the face of golf,of course, but she was considered a phenom. Yeah. She was considered a phenom. I think that perception has since dropped though. Or at least I hope so. She's been in 92 LPGA tournaments. She's won a grand total of 2 of them. That's a win percentage of just 2%.

Saw this joke on the net. Thought I'd share: I saw LeBron before the game and I asked for $1. He gave me $.75. I said "where's the rest"? He replied "I don't have a 4th quarter".

IMO what killed her was her (father's) obsession with getting her into the PGA tournaments.

Dirk would go on to bone each and every one of those women later that night.

That was the period of golf where the media was obsessed with women getting into the PGA tour, and she was supposed to break the barrier. Instead, she was just awful.

LeBron isn't Hogan, Nash or Hall in the 4th qt. He becomes Scott Norton.

He did have a triple double.

For all the disappearing he did in the 4th quarter, he did put up a triple double. Granted, as already said, it was one of the most ineffective triple doubles ever seen in the NBA, but he still did it. That's worth of a B- at the least.

LeBron did get a triple-double, but it could have been a bit more effective had he made a few more baskets.
Sometimes, it's not that you lose, but how you play while losing.
I didn't hear anyone criticized/undermined Durant 40-point game in the opener of the WCF, or that he shrunk in the last two games of that series.

Phil has 4 majors and is know remembered more as a modern day Palmer than a choke artist. AS far as the Wie comment, it's pretty apt. Sure Creamer came along and kinda becme the 'it' girl for the LPGA, but if Wie was dominating it would push a lot more monet into the sport. Another Comparison would be Freddy Adu for MLS, but he wasn't ever really any good.

Dirk does the goofiest things to promote the team, and I love every single one of them.
