Got Volume 2 off eBay a few days ago, and while disc 1 was scratched so I couldn't enjoy one of the seven ep. on it but the set was three dollars, so I can't be too upset), I'm loving this nostalgia trip. I loved its initial run and knew it was good-great, but re-watching many of the episodes again really reminds of just how well written this show was. A cartoon ostensibly 'for kids', especially in that era, had more well fleshed out characters, drama, and pathos than so much of what was out there at the time; especially when compared to say the live action Batflicks of the same era. Hell look no further than the way they developed Mr. Freeze into being a tragic figure with an actual story instead of 'dude with gimmick' for the first time; it's a rare kids show that gives you a nuanced villain. And this series of course was chock full of such greatness. Just finished 'Perchance to Dream' earlier; and while I've never liked the Mad Hatter as a character, that whole Bruce Wayne's parents never died dream scenario was great, heady stuff for an afternoon 'toon. I also liked the Maltese Falcon " The stuff dreams are made of" reference. This thread is just about one of the easiest to ever get behind in that it's about what's already a universally praised show, but you know what? It's so great, it's greatness should be shouted from the rooftops at every opportunity. It's so great, a mural of its characters should be painted along the Great Wall of China. It's so great, Tony the Tiger's catchphrase should be changed to " They'rrrrrre Batman the Animated Series" Feel free to also share in my reverence for this bestest of shows.

Own the full series on DVD. I need to get back to it - only watched the first half of the series in my run through of it. Kinda the good half, but the rest has plenty to offer itself.

Loved the show. But I'm not too sure how many episodes there were. And furthermore does the canon for this continue to The Adventures of Batman & Robin? I loved the show, it's just I never got to see much of it.

TAS series sucks! "The Batman" was a much better show. Okay, seriously, yes it's a good show, but the newer show "Adventures" with the new art style don't hold up as well, mostly due to the change in attitude with Batman and co. The early series was more interesting in character development for everyone involved, which the second lacked. Plus, Mask and Sub-Zero blows "Mystery of the Batwoman" out of the water.

Yeah I'll have to confess I didn't see much of the changeover after they left Fox and it became lighter in tone; so much of my love is for the 'original'.

I've got Volumes 1, 2, and 4. Need to get 3. But I love the show. It's pretty much the reason why my favorite Bat-villains are who they are (with Two-Face, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter as my top 5). I love the TAS take on those characters so much.

Quite possibly the best line ever uttered on the show. Bravo, sir.

Also in a similar vein; because there doesn't really need to be a separate thread for it; finally got around to picking up 'Mad Love' a week or so back.
Never been a big fan of Harley, and while I still wish they'd kept her an animated universe character, that was a really good story.

The fact that it was based on a true story is more horrifying than anything the Joker ever did, honestly. And Batman's laugh was too damn creepy!

Here's a good example of continuing continuity. Don't remember if they cursed during it, so possible language warning.
Also, Doug (AKA Nostalgia Critic) says the first ep mentioned in this video was his favorite ep of the series. Or at least one of them.

One of my favorite cartoons ever. The voice acting was mostly spot on, obviously sometimes there could be a bad choice but for the main villains like Joker, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Penguin and Catwoman were great choices.
Some my favorite episodes were Showdown, Trial, Sideshow and Robin's Reckoning Part 1.

Related to this, the fact that Harley has a different voice actress for Arkham City depresses me.

Wasn't there some sorta Joel Schumacher cameo/slam in one episode?
Also just remembered the Adam West/Gray Ghost ep. That was a great one as well.

Yeah, in the one where it's three kids telling short cartoons in different styles about Batman, while the kids are talking, there's a boy working in a clothing store with feather boa and when he talks bout how he imagines Batman as having a car that climbs buildings and a rubber suit or something, the others tell him to "shut up, Joel".
