Ah, I knew it had probably something to do with that issue.
Then again, I am from Europe and even I don't know what our big issue was with ninjas and nunchucks back then.

desertassassin, that wasn't the only notable cut.
My understanding is that 4:39-5:00 was also cut out in the European release, with Shredder basically looking like he was tripped over the building.

With that one, it's even more nonsensical. Throwing over does not = tripped.

It's very, very good. The rooftop fight with Raphael used to always get me worked up as a kid, since he was my favorite. The foot soldier dropping Raph's sai off of the roof just let you know Raphael was in for a savage, savage beating.

Thats gotta be one hell of an editing job , cause shredder does pretty much a summersault off the roof lol.
Now i wanna see the edited version to see the ridiculousness of what i have now pondered.

Damn, those are two cool scenes. Damn those who cut them out! ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

The foot soldier dropping Raph's sai off of the roof just let you know Raphael was in for a savage, savage beating. That part of the movie always scared me when I was a kid, as well as the scene in which Tatsu beat the s*** out of that young Foot soldier. Like many young TMNT fans, my main exposure to the franchise was the light, happy 80s cartoon, so the movie was a stark contrast that showed that yeah, the good guys can be hurt. Count me in as a fan of the soundtrack from the first film. A few weeks ago I went to the theater to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. As I was walking through the door to the lobby I heard MC Hammer's "This is What We Do." I marked. The soundtrack was available on iTunes for a short time but now it's gone; I'm kicking myself for not buying it.

now that im home from work and can actually see the clips i cant believe those were cut out in the European version, the Australian version always had those scenes, my VHS had them, even as a child seeing it in the cinema i can remember quote the line "A fellow chucker hey" at school the next day
and to me thats kinda odd because australia always gets pretty much the European/UK version of everything

Love the movies. The first is a classic. The second I liked more as a kid due to its humor (THOUGH WHY WASN'T IT BEBOP AND ROCKSTEADY, DAMMIT!), but now I appreciate the first one more. The third one is pretty bad. The CGI one was....well it had a lot of great stuff in it. LOVED the Raph/Leonardo fight scene, and the style was great, but it had a lot of bad too. More good than bad though, IMHO.

This is the German Turtles opening. Count the replaced scenes and guess what or who was cut out from the American opening. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) I still don't get how swords and sais are A-OK, but two pieces of wood connected with a chain are something to protect the innocent children from. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

I always liked the second one more as a kid but as I've gotten older I think the first one is easily the better movie. I still think the second one is pretty good though for a popcorn movie.
I honestly don't think critics gave the first one enough credit. They didn't take it very seriously due to it being the first TMNT movie. If they had gotten past that they could have seen that it was actually really cool.
I don't think the third one is great but I do think it is a little underrated. I actually heard that it has more action than the other two which is ironic considering it is the most kid-friendly in some ways.
I have a soft spot for the third one because that was the only one I saw in theaters as a kid since I was 5 years old in 1993.

The reason why nunchucks were completely cut away from Way of Dragon and other fu films was due to street gangs adding them to their arsenal. TX Chainsaw was banned 3 times in UK (1975 , 77 and 84....the silly Video Nasties era) , Friday 13th also cut in Germany. Still remember the III figures in the toy store window , sad memory for me.....the steam had run out , it was the end of Turtlemania ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png)

I've mentioned it on this board before. But this movie is what convinced me that the ninja turtles were real and why I got stuck in a sewer as a young lad.

In the years since the movie, I've sometimes wondered how it'd have been different if they stuck with the comics version of events and had Leo be the one the foot pummeled on the rooftop.
