Why would they be afraid? Two of the longest tenured employees in the company are well known homosexuals. Go to an indie promotion in the deep south. I mean, the REALLY deep south, where the wrestlers are equally as banjo-picktastic as the marks. Say you're gay. If you can get out alive, you could write a kickass book about it. Or North. Or West. Or East. Bigotry knows no geography.

Re: homophobia in sports.
It's ridiculous to me - well, homophobia in general, but I digress - that "gay = bad" simply because, well ...
What's more "gay" than being in a room full of a dozen or more naked dudes, slapping each other on the ass for a job well done? If anything screams "gay," it's that, IMO.

Gay = attraction to the same sex. I doubt any athlete is like "HOLY SHIT I'M SLAPPING MY TEAMMATE ON THE ASS THIS IS SO HOT!", it's just men being comfortable with their sexuality and being a part of a team.

I've heard that Katie Lea is bisexual. I'd like to know where this news is from.

I know what gay means; that's why I had it in quotes. It's not for-real gay; it's the perception that a lot of homophobes have of what is and isn't "gay." I make jokes all the time about possibly being gay, or co-workers or friends possibly being gay. That is also being comfortable with one's sexuality. I just find it amusing that doing so in front of the wrong type of person would get me called a "faggot," but they're quite comfortable with the aforementioned ass-slapping and mass nudity, which, IMO, could be construed as "gay" with a lot more reason than other, obviously facetious, behavior or words.

I'd just like to see pro-wrestling finally do a fully face, non creepy, freakish, and/or exploitative gay gimmick. It's 2011, it would work.

Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel both have significant others that are female. Gabriels could be a front but I think Slater's is legit. Rhaka Khan really doesn't scream "look, I got this insanely hot woman, I am not gay", so it must be love WTF? I actually looked up who the heck Khan was, she's at least a solid 7.5 Apparently I need to start hanging around you if you're pulling in such hot women that someone like her isn't much to write home about.

Let's leave pure speculation out of this, please. No more "might be" or "I heard" - we don't need libel suits.

Retired indy wrestler Glenn Spectre is openly gay. For those who have no idea who I'm talking about, Glenn mainly worked in Pittsburgh (IWC) and New York (NWA Upstate), and also helped train a good portion of the people working the Pittsburgh scene today. He also had a tag team title run in DDT with Danskoku Dino in 2004, one of only two gajin wrestlers to do so. (The other was Kenny Omega in 2009.) His best known gimmick, in IWC and DDT at any rate, was as the "Wonderman" - think heel Goldust, only sarcastic instead of creepy. He ended up turning face about eight months after he debuted the character, largely due to fan reaction. No one wanted to boo the guy. The face version of the gimmick was pretty similar to Colt Cabana's current gimmick, replacing "I'm Jewish" with "I'm gay." He would also go back to his original "ghost" gimmick from time to time, where he was supposed to be a ghost from Pac-Man.

Didn't know he was gay. I met him once and accidentally called him Alex Shelly which is still an embarrassment to this day.

Because the majority of wrestling fans are rednecks who are stuck in the 1950s mind. Let's wait til around 2070 and see if we can do it

Isn't one of the guys who was part of the Christopher St. Connection from ROH gay actually? I remember coming across his Myspace page a while back and it said gay under orientation, unless he is kayfabing.

If by openly gay you mean "did a series of gay porn films" then yes. Well, that would seem pretty open. Not like you think. HBO did a series about porn and they talked about men in gay porn. It seems alot of them are straight and even have girlfriends/wives. They do gay porn cause the guy gets paid better then in straight porn if your not a name guy. Of course, some would say they're gay but, in denial.
