Watched 2 reviews of the movie Apollo 18.
The first was the spill audio. It was a short review compared to the usual ones, and they thought it was bad. They were gonna give ti a low rental until the end, which pissed them off to go lower to "Some Ol' Bulls***"
The second, Brad Jones of The Cinema Snob, has his own review, and besides the major issue of the big plothole of the movie (How in the hell did the handheld cameras used by the astronauts arrive on Earth?), he said he liked it for the most part, and did enjoy the ending.

I have watched Kevin Smith's first horror film Red State and would like to say...that it isn't a horror film.
Sure, it starts out that way, but eventually his ADD filmmaking goes off in 20 other directions and in the end you get something that can be described as an action-thriller at best. And that's stretching the definition.
I'm guessing the hype for this may have hurt it in my eyes because it's nothing spectacular. It's decent. The only real story around this film is Smith's desire to try and market the film on his own.
Of course, I'm being a bit vague here because I plan and writing a proper review later on. However, as a form of summary, I'd say it's worth only a rental. I definitely don't suggest blind-purchasing it unless you want some buyer's remorse.

The director of the Straw Dogs remake tweeted about Shark Night 3D last night: You can find his account at: twitter.com/RodLurieThis guy is not helping to cool down my dislike of his remake.

Cat scratched me last night, stupid Katie, Phone rang while I was in the Shower? You bet your ass that's her fault

They're making a sequel to the CG Resident Evil movie. This is the teaser for Resident Evil: Damnation, the follow up from RE: Degeneration. I've been meaning to watch Degeneration, as I've heard good things.

Degeneration is okay at best, personally. At least, that's what I think.
Anyways, we're getting close to 30. Any new thread name ideas?

My horror-movie watching season begins now (well, sorta; more on that in a minute). I just saw House of the Devil for the first time (which is way way late, considering I'm a horror mark to the max). And it has all I really ever ask for in a horror movie: {Spoiler}based in a realistic setting, scenes with a radio DJ talking, long/extended silences, shadow effects, an obscure TV channel broadcast, excellent use of lighting, and great use of sound. That's really all of the makings of a creepfest to me. I can't wait to uncover a few more "must sees" this Halloween season and I really wish people would list those "must sees" at the beginning of the new thread that gets started. I will also add to the new "must sees" my yearly ritual of watching the first 20 minutes of the original When a Stranger Calls (SCARIEST BEGINNING TO A FILM EVER!) and of course watching the original Halloween. And to reference what I said earlier, I was thinking del Toro's "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" was going to be the opening to this year's horror moviethon, but it's a far cry from Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. And as someone said, Katie Holmes is the BIGGEST reason for the flop. The acting overall is atrocious. (And this is coming from a guy who likes the 80s style babysitter dramatics.) Also saw Apollo 18, and I will say that it has its moments. Not one that *has* to be seen in theaters. I'm a fan of the handheld story-telling horror/thriller genre, but my biggest issue is that some of these filmmakers are just phoning it in now. To answer the "big plothole" of how they got the cameras back to earth: they didn't. It was obviously {Spoiler}recorded on earth via remote as it was happening. That's part of the government coverup. Apparently, the "lunartruth" people had uncovered the government footage via some Wikileaks levels of controversy. That's how I explain it anyway. But yeah, I thought there was some adequate creepyness in a few scenes, and one in particular {Spoiler}midway through the movie .

Ok horror book fans, where do I start? I have 4 books in front of me, and I dont know which to start reading I have Cujo, Needful Things, Pet Semetary (Yes, all from King) and Clive Barkers Book of Blood I'd start with Book of Blood, then move onto King's stories (which I'd start with Pet Sematary). I borrowed a few Masters of Horror DVDs from my cousin's husband. Outside of the occasional episode, I never did watch these (which I know is a crime). Here are the four I borrowed: Family (d. John Landis) Pelts (d. Dario Argento) Imprint (d. Takashi Miike) Cigarette Burns (d. John Carpenter) His favorite out of the bunch was Cigarette Burns, so I'm saving that for last. I watched Family last night and really enjoyed it. Wendt is phenomenal in his role. Despite the fact that it was in my face the whole time, I didn't see the ending coming. Good directing by Landis. I'm going to dig into a few more shortly. After I'm done with these, there are some on Netflix Instant I will watch and any remaining episodes I can probably rent from my local video store. Speaking of my local video store, I rented and watched A Horrible Way to Die the other day. It was alright, but suffered from some questionable direction. The ending almost salvaged some of the mistakes, but made one of it's own. Even so, there is some decent tension and the acting is good. I'd give it a C+.

I enjoyed "Pelts" as well as Argento's other episode "Jenifer". I own "Imprint". It's...weird. It's Miike, so you know it's weird going in, but I still can't say whether I enjoyed it or not.
I have 2 other episodes. One is Landis's "Deer Woman" which is my favorite episode, even though it isn't scary. It feels like a pilot for something like a comedic "X-Files".
The other is Lucky McKee's "Sick Girl" which I found rather annoying. Felt like a weak episode of the "Goosebumps" tv show, but with lesbianism. The only highlight is that the girls were cute in it, and Erin Brown went topless. Though, if you know where to look on the internet, you can see her body without sitting through this nonsense.

Just watched the other three DVDs.
Pelts- Enjoyable fare from Argento, though doesn't particularly feel like his type of story. Meat Loaf is good in his role, as well as Saxon (and everybody, for that matter). The self-inflicting torture scenes can be pretty intense.
Imprint- I agree with you, DSR. I do know I enjoyed the film, but the ending soured me. A bit too strange for my liking, though that has more to do with the way the story was unfolding and how the end result felt out of left field. I can understand why this was banned from airing on Showtime, as that torture scene is brutal.
Cigarette Burns- The best of the four I watched and could have easily ran for another hour if it wanted to. Not that it being an hour hurt it at all. I'm simply implying that another hour could have been devoted to those who were affected by the infamous film which is being hunted down, as well as more back story. Maybe that would have hurt the film. All I know was that I loved this and was completely wrapped into it!
I was browsing through Netflix's Instant selections and it seems as if they have every single installment up to watch. If not, they have most of them. Will dig into them shortly.

Okay. I'll throw a confession on here.
Cigarette Burns is the only horror related movie I've watched that has terrified me to the point that I walked out of the room during the finale and LISTENED for something bad to happen. And when it didn't sound that bad, only then did I return, rewind, and finish watching it. Watching it alone, at night, with no lights on was probably my biggest mistake and I felt quite cowardly afterwards.
Daggone John Carpenter. He will always have "it" when it comes to directing.

I did watch "Cigarette Burns" at a friend's house, but that friend had a habit of talking through the movie (and not in a fun, MST3K way or anything...more like the flick was supposed to be background to her conversation about dinner or whatever). So I couldn't get into it. And I'm no longer friends with her. So there's that. Hearing how it was received by you guys, I might have to look for it and give it another viewing. By myself this time.

Carpenter has a knack of drawing the viewer in and building tension solely by having us feel for the characters involved. Too bad Ghosts of Mars and The Ward didn't have this to their advantage.

I mostly dug the MOH series, but I have to admit I wasn't crazy about Imprint. I'm not a Miike fan to begin with, and it didn't do anything to change my mind.

I own "Family" on DVD. If I remember correctly, I think George Wendt actually eats beans.
I could be wrong. I've got the next two days off, I'll have to watch it again.

I've only seen one episode of Masters of Horror - Argento's Jenifer, which is pretty damn good. One of these days I'll have to track down a copy of Imprint, since I'm a big Miike mark. Eli Roth has nothing on this guy.
Having said that, I've read summaries of the rest of the episodes, and my impression is that the series turns really, really, really hamfisted and preachy in Season 2.
