This thread is mostly inspired by the recent debate over the renaming of independent star Chris Hero to Kassius Ohno upon his signing to FCW. Some are saying that it is among the worst names FCW has ever produced, that they can't take him seriously because of it and it may hinder his career. Some like the name for it being instantly memorable and non-generic. Others, like me, don't really care about the name and are of the opinion that if he's as good as people say he is then his name won't matter.
But my main question is this... what cases have there been in wrestling history where a guy or girl has gotten a ring name so unbelievably bad, that it has damaged their career beyond all semblance of recognition?
I'll be damned if I can think of one of the top of my head right now, so it might be up to you guys to help me out here.

It's been argued that Val Venis could've went further in his career if not for that name.

Poor old Monty Sopp had a bad enough name to begin with, so you'd think he might come up with a pretty cool stage name to make up for it. Here are the names he has performed under in his near 20 year career: Billy G. Billy Gunn Cute Kip Kip Gunn Kip James Kip Sopp Mr. Ass The G-Man The New Age Outlaw The Outlaw Rockabilly "The One" Billy Gunn Bad Ass Billy Gunn

He is very physically talented, but never had a lot of presence or mic skill unfortunately. I think Tracy Smothers would have gone further with a different name.

I don't think a name can hold anyone back from going on to bigger things. An example is Dolph Ziggler, and how his name, which was originally a joke to sound like Dirk Diggler, hasn't kept him down.

A bad name can not ruin careers.
A silly gimmick can ruin careers.

think of how many careers were saved by even slight changes though? Even a nickname change. I mean, remember "Badger F***in'" Mike Quackenbush?

Justin Credible cut it in ECW, but in WWE... fans were never going to accept it.

Justin Credible cut it in ECW, but in WWE... fans were never going to accept it. I was taking a break from watching at the time, but was he allowed to use his catchphrase in WWE? In terms of names that made bad gimmicks worse and stunted careers: Flash Funk Sparky Plugg (let's face it, "Holly Wood" Bob Holly was never the same after being called "Sparky.") Jimmy Graffiti

In all fairness, that ship sailed LONG before that gimmick.
