Worse: Kaval. I expected him to at least be a midcarder for a few years. Well, it's basically his own fault for that. Low Ki is basically a massive asshole and hard to work with for a lot of promoters and so forth.

I figured Ahmed Johnson would be the top dog of 1996, and to some extent, Bobby Lashley being the top dog in 2007/2009. I also never really saw The Miz and CM Punk getting to the peaks they've reached.

Given his size, WWE's priorities and how his WCW run ended up I'm happily surprised by how Rey fared.

I am a huge fan of the guy but honestly never Saw Daniel Bryan being World Champion, US champion I thought was going to be his crowning moment.
I honeslty thought MVP, Mr. Kennedy and John Morrison would all be multiple time WWE And World champions, and I thought Colt Cabana would have least made IC champion.

Worse? MVP. He had a nice little run but I honestly thought he'd be huge. He had all the tools. age and lack of big moves did him in.

I watched MVP as Antonio Banks in IPW Hardcore in Tampa in 2002-03. I actually thought there were a lot more entertaining guys in IPW at the time, and better wrestlers (including a young guy named Roderick Strong). To his credit, he improved quite a bit by 2007 and got a lot farther than I thought he might when WWE hired him.
I also never saw JBL as a World Champion before 2004. Not even when he briefly hit the upper midcard in 2002.
As for worse than expected, Sean O'Haire and Mike Awesome top my list. Awesome could have at least been an upper-card wrestler for a few years, and O'Haire could have main evented and even won a World Championship. If only he could have cut live promos without laughing.

Better: John Cena - I never thought Cena would be the face of the company. I thought he was being built up to be fed to HHH
Worse: Zack Ryder - I thought he would've been somewhat credible after beating Ziggler, but it was all destroyed by Kane.

I always knew Miz was going to be amazing, I truly thought MVP would be champion one day. *Smackdown* I honestly thought CM punk was going to be fired after jobbing to show. Dolph is doing way better than I could have ever envisioned.

For an old school "better" example, I would argue the Undertaker. Dude was pretty much a nobody in the NWA/WCW before jumping ship, and then got tagged with a gimmick that most guys of that era probably couldn't have lasted a year doing. Yet here he is, how many years later, one of the biggest names in the sport? In that vein, who'd have figured WCW jobbers Terra Ryzing and Damon Striker would be WWE grand slam champions, as well as Royal Rumble and King of the Ring winners?

As far as better I would have to actually go with Ziggler, and I am surprised no one has mentioned him. This guy was nothing in OVW (I saw him, trust me). He debuted as Chavo's caddy and immediately botched his first spot. He became Nicky in the Spirit Squad and a lot more distinguished OVW performers didn't survive that gimmick (Doane, Jeter), yet he somehow did. And he ended up with the god awful Dolph Ziggler ring name. It's astounding that this guy has lasted as long as he has.
For some reason I don't put Miz on this list. It was obvious from day 1 that WWE saw something in him. He had an undefeated push for a while even when he was horrible on SD.
Chris Harris (Braden Walker) is a guy that I thought had all the tools when he was in TNA. I thought he was an Edge/Bret Hart hybrid that just needed to improve on the mic a bit and then he would be terrific. Then he showed up in ECW out of shape and flat out sucked.
Some guys like DDP and Vader were never long for WWE though. DDP was already 45 when he reached WWE during the Invasion. Was he really going to last long even if he hadn't been buried? Vader was already injury prone and in his late 30s, and further was far too stiff for most of the roster. Guys like Sting and Foley let Vader batter them bloody in WCW, and it made Vader look better than he really was.
