Hogan edges out Austin then the Rock, but they aren't THAT far behind. But he is the top of the pyramid.
Hogan though is part of Americana this point. Forget even the wrestling aspect, or who drew more money or sold more merchandise; the guy is a pop culture icon that not even the other two can touch really.

Love to vote for Austin but w/o Hogan there is no WWF brand. Ric Flair was wring Vince could not have done that with anybody. No trigger, no explosions. If Hogan dosnt make WWF in 85, than a lot is different in wrestling history. You mean if Piper didn't make Hogan...

Hogan. Everyone knows him. He even crossed over to acting and made it big there.

Hogan. He could walk (limp) out as a surprise opponent for anyone in the WWE under ANY circumstance and not only get a pop that would register on the richter scale, but he would have every jaded smark on the Internet marking out like a 10 year old.

Write-in vote for Andre the Giant.
No one didn't know who he was, and that was without the exposure of being in a Rocky movie (which propelled Hogan into the mainstream) and with coming along at a time when during most of his career there was no network (SNME) exposure and cable TV hadn't been invented.
You could darned sure make an argument for Gorgeous George, who was a household name in every household in America in his day and one of the first true TV stars.

And you can add Freddy Blassy to tat list

HULK HOGAN, and it's not even close. Say what you will about the guy, but he can still garner mainstream press after all these years.

Asking this question is like asking, "Who was the biggest Yankee?" There are great Yankees and then there are iconic legendary Yankees...and then there's Babe Ruth.
Andre, Austin, Gorgeous George...they're the Mantles, DiMaggios and Gehrigs of wrestling. Hogan is Babe Ruth.

You can't argue that Hulk Hogan is Number #1 No doubt about it.

Austin was a fad..he was hugely popular but lasted what? 5 years max. Hogan was on top for 50 years brother! Austin was Myspace, Hogan was Google. (And the Rock is Twitter )

I think a better question these days is who the second biggest is, because it's not even a debate that Hogan is the first.
And I'm a bit suprised that Austin has more votes than Rock, whose name is likely more recognizable outside of wrestling.

Hogan, and I would rate Big Daddy second to him. To anyone over a certain age in England Big Daddy IS wrestling x

It may not be debateable that hogan is the biggest superstar, but i think you should add Vince McMahon to that list mainly because his name remains synonymous with wrestling as a whole. I know Hogan is the biggest star but people fail to realize that Vince McMahon is the second person a casual fan or a non fan would know before rock or austin.

The Undertaker is a pretty damned big household name, maybe not the biggest but I'd say right under Stone Cold and The Rock.

When it comes to wrestling, I think you'd have to weigh up how much WWF made with Hogan against how much WWF made with Steve Austin and then adjust for inflation.
In fact really I think you could only base it on merchandise because in those days it wasn't just Hogan and Steve that drew, you had the entire roster and just being a WWF show meant it would sell out. I really doubt The Rock is on the same level though.
