Damn it all, I don't think I'm going to get a chance to watch the finale live. Stupid weekend work.

I thought I'd put this here rather than start a new thread, but...
So, I'm rewatching the live-action "The Last Airbender" movie. When I first saw it, I wasn't a fan of the show, never had watched an episode, didn't know what the premise was, although I knew it that it was quite popular. I thought the movie was okay, if not a little stilted in some places, worth my $3.50 DVD rental price. Oddly enough, it was the movie, and the fans' apoplectic reaction to it, that made me search out the series (and thank goodness YTV was airing a New Year's Eve/New Year's Day marathon of the entire series.
So, going back to the movie out of morbid curiosity, I now understand the anger of the fans. The character names being mispronounced, the wooden performances, the clunky, most basic dialogue, the earthbending dance at the prison... I'm not even halfway through the movie and I'm raging very badly at how bad this is compared to the series.
Mind you, I WOULD actually like to see Book 2 done as a film, but WITHOUT the input of M. Night Shyamalan.

I'm not even halfway through the movie and I'm raging very badly at how bad this is compared to the series. Mind you, I WOULD actually like to see Book 2 done as a film, but WITHOUT the input of M. Night Shyamalan. It really is an awful film, whether you're a fan of the series or not, but yeah, just knowing how great it COULD have been makes it hurt worse. M. Night made a dumb mistake: he tried to adapt an entire season of TV the same way somebody would adapt a book or do a movie remake. It's pretty easy to adapt a book and keep almost the entire story consistent. Obviously some changes are made, but typically nothing THAT radical, unless the director/writer has a totally different vision. But think about an entire season of TV - in the case of Avatar, 20 episodes, 22 minutes each, so much material...and now think about trying to boil that all down to 90-120 minutes. Impossible, especially if you do it the way M. Night did it and basically try to fit EVERYTHING in. He should've picked a few key elements of the first season and made those the focus, then made changes to suit those things. I'd say the most important aspects were Aang and Zuko's character arcs, perhaps their relationships with their mentor figures, and the overall "journey" feel of the show (it has to feel like a long, arduous one). Take those aspects and go right ahead and alter the overall storyline to put the focus on them. Don't try to cram in the first three episodes, the Blue Spirit, Imprisoned, etc. etc. etc. etc. when there simply isn't any time.

It would have been pretty funny if Amon's airship was the one Bei Fong destroyed. "Oops, there goes the plot." As for the romance? I don't mind it in the slightest, really, since it's hardly like the first series was without it, it only dragged it out longer. What they did in seasons, Korra is doing in episodes, and I don't mind that. Also, am I supposed to hate Mako like the shippers? Because really, I just don't. Honestly the romance triangle(I would've said square, but it seems like Bolin might have moved on) is making me hate Asami more than anyone else involved, because she's putting it on equal, if not higher, footing than a damned war she is greatly involved in. Priorities mate, you need to learn them. Are you kidding me, after the way she took care of those Equalists like a boss, If I am Korra I rather have her on my team and as my backup, than Mako and Bolin. In the new Team Avatar, the girls just put the boys to shame. And it is not like she is complaining about Mako and his jerkiness when they are in the middle of the battle. When the battle starts, she handles her business. Korra and Asami, we just need one more girl and we have the new Angels. Personally the two of them, should just forget Mako, he ain't worth it, and have three ways with Bolin.

On the shipping subject, I kind of dislike Asami but it's not due to that. It's more that the romance plot is pretty much the only role she has in the show - the stuff with her dad could have been done more or less the same way if she wasn't involved at all, honestly - and she just comes off as a flat character who needs to get over her romance issues and worry about the fact that the city's presently burning to the ground.

Don't blame Asami on the writers crap. She gave up everything to fight for what she thougth was right. She gave up a life of luxary because her strong moral convictions. I respect her for that, and of all the teenagers in the show, she might be the best fighter next to Korra. It is the writer's fault for not giving her story the proper attention. Seriously you people act like she complains about her love life in the middle of the battle, she confronted Mako in Tenzin's kitchen during the groups downtime and when there was no imminent danger.

If they had seen her before, she probably would have not been as useful. Asami is the team's driver and in that role, she's quite good, but in a straight up fight, she's not really going to be super useful compared to the benders.

Only thing i wonder..is that in the episode suddenly Asami knew how to fight...i know it's because they want to be more "useful" in the battle, but it was a little random how well she fought

The Asami thing reminds me, wonder if the Lieutenant's supposed to be dead given the drop he took. I doubt it but sort of hope so, given the guy's basically been Worfed to hell and back and he really only has one type of fight to him.

As far as Team Avatar goes, it's Mako who I don't care for. Not because of the romance or anything, it's that he just doesn't contribute a lot, character-wise. Korra is the main character, Bolin is the comedy character, and Asami has shown more competence and usefulness in battle than either brother. She's also got that storyline, however underdeveloped, with Hiroshi Sato. In comparison, what does Mako really have to make him interesting?

Amon x Tarrlok, it was meant to be.
OH EM GEE U GUIZ, TEH FINALY B TOMRRARO.
I have to work in the morning and afternoon, but I should be able to DVR it, drive back, and watch in-between. I don't think I could go the whole day not knowing the outcome.

Amon x Tarrlok, it was meant to be. Meh, they're too old to be attractively slashable- not to mention their personalities are both too "alpha".

Now, now, we don't know exactly how old Amon is.
Plus, Amon pretty thoroughly humbled Tarrlok when he broke into his cabin...which sounds even dirtier.

Now, now, we don't know exactly how old Amon is. Reminds me of my initial theory about Amon. {Spoiler} ![](http://i46.tinypic.com/r8e5wy.jpg) I'm still sticking to my "anti-Avatar" theory (but obviously dropping the Tarrlok part), but I did think when the series started that this scenario might be possible. Logical, well, not as much, but still possible.

So since we're at the end of the series, and Bryke did say that the Equalist plot will be wrapped up this season, who do you guys think is going to be the villain of the next one? I'm hoping for one or all of the Triads.
