David Aldridge is saying: Sign/trade between Boston, NO for David West is dead, confirms ESPN.com report that Pacers closing in on signing West. Brilliant for Indiana if true. A great PF is the piece they've been missing.

Pacers also looking to pick up O.J. Mayo from Memphis in exchange for Josh McRoberts and a First Round Pick.
A rehash of the deal that didn't get done before the last deadline.

Kudos to the Pacers for a successful offseason. Hill, Mayo and West are all solid recruits.

Kudos to the Pacers for a successful offseason. Hill, Mayo and West are all solid recruits. Have to agree. This season's going to be big for them. They're a very young team with a lot of potential and they're definitely picking up the right parts. Also: Agent Lance Young confirms David West agrees with Indiana on two-year, $20 million deal: "David is ready to help them win a championship."

Houston isn't done trying yet with the Gasol family:
WojYahooNBA Houston's close to signing Marc Gasol to max-contract offer sheet, working a sign-and-trade with Memphis to secure him, league sources say.

Dear God, Memphis is self-destructing the team that got to the Western Conference Semi-Finals, and had a pretty good shot at the Western Conference Finals, or the actual Finals, this season if they kept that team intact.
If I was a Memphis fan, I'd be PISSED right now.

Memphis and the Mavericks seem like they decided that last year was fun, but eh, would rather not have the stress of expectations with really good teams.

If LA doesn't get Dwight Howard, it is going to be hard for the Thunder to NOT be the favorites to win the West this year, they are the only team in the West that went deep into the playoffs last year to keep their team together this offseason.

So the Knicks have finally exhumed the corpse of Chauncey Billups, and instead of throwing away the sarcophagus and starting fresh, they're just bringing in a new body, embalming it, wrapping it in cloth and placing it right back in the tomb that was once reserved for Billups. The Celtics fan making fun of another team signing an older player. Cute. Seriously, the Celtics have been the NBA's version of the Shady Acres retirement home for the past few years.

That is exactly why I stay away from (caring about) the West - nonsensical trades in an ever-fluctuating conference.
Not to say that there aren't any nonsensical trades in the East, but at least the teams are consistent with their idiocy.
And this may be a stretch, but I see the Pacers as a potential 6th seed:
Starters: Collison/Mayo/Granger/West/Hibbert 2nd Team: Hill/Rush/George/Hansbrough/Foster

So you'd be looking at a front court of Collison and George with Hill rotating in at both spots. Mayo would come off the bench much as he did for Memphis.

Wait, so Lamar Odom and Greg Oden did the Fusion Dance and the resulting player who has the talent of Oden but has Odom's durability(which is better than Oden's) was sent to Dallas? Sweet.

Is the balance of power in the NBA shifting to the East? Miami adds Shane Battier, Chicago should be about the same and were damn good last year, everyone and their mother trying to go to New York, Dwight Howard may end up on the Nets, and the Pacers making solid moves.
Meanwhile, unless the Lakers pull off a D Howard trade they'll be worse this year, Dallas is somehow imploding, Memphis getting rid of a Gasol, the Spurs have done nothing of note, and Oklahoma is potentially the only real strong favorite. Houston and the Clippers (if they get Paul) will be fun to watch, though.
