I don't consider the Atomic Rainnuke and Sonic Rainboom to be the same ability, really. In fact, if you think about it, there is no way she could pull off the Atomic Rainnuke at the Best Flyer's Competition, and thus needed the actual Rainboom to ensure her victory She needs solid ground to pull off the Rainnuke. Cloudsdale doesn't exactly have a whole lot of solid ground to work with. I could buy that actually. I'm actually rather neutral on Dashie, the only reason I'm hard on her at all is I see some of the decisions that have been made regarding the direction her character has gone thus far and feel that the writers have done her a massive disservice. She CAN be and has been written as more dynamic character and, given that she's being used as the show's mascot, should not be as prone to Flanderization. Pretty much this. Remember, I use to LOVE Rainbow Dash. They've basically committed character assassination in my eyes in regards to Dash. As for the Flanderization of Dash, sadly she's not the only one to have been Flanderized this season. We all know what happened to Big Macintosh so far.

Also scheduling 2 episodes where she learns (basically) the same lesson on back-to-back weeks kinda makes her look like she's either REALLY obnoxious or Incredibly dense. We need to introduce Sledgie who whoever is scheduling these episodes.

It's just such a shame that the writing was so off in Mare Do Well, because it seems like the intent was to have her learn humility at the end, but the plot was just so choppy that everyone remembered the douche moments way more.
I thought the scene with Dash going insane over being replaced by Mare Do Well was probably the best moment of the episode, and it should have given her some humility as she should have realized how ridiculous she looked when she was triumphing over the Peanut Butter Jar and vanquished the evil weeds that were terrifying the park.
Instead, she goes back to the douchiness and chases Mare Do Well down anyway. That was...rather disappointing and made it seem like they were trying to make her unlikable.

Don't forget the ending, where she pranks Spike for literally no reason. Really bad way to end there...

You know, out of all the Dash problems in that episode, none of them bothered me as much as one other stupid thing the episode had, and that's Pinkie Pie being scared of ghosts. DID MERRIWETHER NOT LISTEN TO THE FRIGGIN' SONG?

She had to get that ghostwritten letter away from him before he sent it to the Princess, and he was pretty insistent on sending it.

I've realized something.....all it would take is maybe one good episode's worth of writing to "redeem" Rainbow dash in my eyes. Something to ground her again.

DID MERRIWETHER NOT LISTEN TO THE FRIGGIN' SONG? Pinkie's always been kind of iffy on whether she's scared of ghosts and stuff. The first Zecora episode has her frightened over Spike's mention of Zombie Ponies when they are hiding from her.

Plus Pinkie was put in that Naughty and Nice competition as the representative of the show (I think she was the only one other than Discord) over Rainbow Dash. So it could easily be said that Pinkie is more of the show mascot than Dash is.

A Minor mis-statement.....Pinkie is the face that Hub wants to promote in it's toyline merch and on TV, but Rainbow Dash has been co-opted in the Manestream adult "Brony" lines avaialble through mass market retailers (Hot Topic).

Not to mention she's the "reincarnation" of Lauren's favorite G1 pony, so there's that issue as well.

She just finds it fun to be scared of zombies and ghosts, as we learned from Luna Eclipsed.

Though I know of at least one person here who might not share my opinion.

You know, when I think about it, it was a REALLY ballsy move for the show runners to hand Merriwether Williams the job of writing the episode that covered the origin story for Equestria.
And not really because of how bad of a job she did with Mare Do Well, but because she was a new writer to the show. I'm someone that thinks if someone is going to write any kind of origin tale, it has to be someone who has had an established history with the characters/location. Basically, one of the recurring writers from season 1 would have been my personal choice.
