You know, the sooner pro wrestlers realise that trolling people for any kind of attention is actually much more counter productive in 2012 then it was in the 90s, the better the industry will be.

Jim Ross makes comments on Kevin Nash's comments: Here are some highlights of what Jim Ross said about the situation: gIfm an old school guy who thinks that wrestlers come in all shapes and sizes and that the final, final decree on how well said talents produce is ultimately left up to the consumer aka the fans.h gLots of sub six feet tall athletes have been huge box office draws in the biz over the years. There are too many to mention here.h gSeveral big men who have migrated into the pro wrestling world simply because of their size have failed. Some havenft. Kevin Nash was and still is very successful. Hefs made a lot of money and hefs saved it. Smart guy. Out of the entire Grantland piece the thing that I felt was most compelling for todayfs wrestlers, rookies, wannabefs, etc, is that Kevin Nash made big money and he took care of it.h Despite the negative backlash Nashfs comments have received on Twitter, from past and present wrestlers, Ross went on to praise Nash: gNash is a brilliant guyclove him or hate him. Hefs a survivor and by any means necessary which at times doesnft sit well with some people.h gI helped give Kevin one of his first breaks while we were both in Atlanta in the early 90Œs when WCW management, and I use that term loosely, did not know what to do with an athletic, 7 footer who could talk and who had a great look. When management heard Kev in on my WSB Radio show it opened their eyes to what they potentially had.h gNo, I donft agree with Kevin on his smaller wrestlers theory as I like all that have true talent. But I do defend his right to express himself and chuckle at the ability that he has to manipulate fans and peers alike in 140 characters or less.h Source: www.wrestling-edge.com/wwe-news-rumors/jim-ross-blogs-kevin-nashs-benoitguerrero-comments.html

I seriously can't believe that after all these years. All the things that has happened in wrestling. All of the guys that have come up...
Kevin Nash dusts off the ol vanilla midget routine and we all revert back to as if it were 10 years ago like nothing.
Like nothing has even been remotely proven.

I'm going to do some vintage Michael Cole here but KEVIN NASH IS TRENDING!
His objectives have been fulfilled.

I agree with most of what Ross says, but enough of this "manipulating the fans" speak. Saying something dumb that people will obviously disagree with is NOT manipulating anyone, even if you're saying it for the reaction. Both scenarious paint you as a troll. By this logic, the average youtube poster is a master manipulator. I swear, the ability wrestlers have to pat themselves on the back over the most tiny thing is fascinating.

So, no? This doesn't do anything to benefit Nash besides get people to roll their eyes at him on the internet?
Thought so.

You know, this "trolling" BS from wrestlers got old about the time Russo and co. ran the concept into the ground and then six feet under. All it does is demonstrate how much contempt a wrestler has for fans: first by saying stupid shit like Nash has said, then blaming us for somehow "not getting a joke." If I didn't know any better, I'd say Nash was a goddamn sociopath.
HHH tried pulling this crap before he realized that his legacy as a promoter might be better served by embracing the Internet's wrestling fans rather than hating on them. The reason guys like Punk and Bryan are on top now is because fans enjoy seeing them in the ring and because they make imitation possible - fans can see themselves in these people and occasionally be inspired to follow in their footsteps. The idea that great wrestlers are made and not born is better for business overall: a wider assortment of body types and styles are included on the roster and generate broader appeal, higher ratings and buyrates and higher merch sales; applications and enrollment at wrestling schools go up; the indies get better talent and draw more money; WWE has a bigger pool to draw from.
Nash's needy clinging to such outmoded ideas also demonstrates how the business has changed since his NWO days - in the years immediately following the end of WCW, WWE was highlighting its stars as actual human beings: Mick Foley the first among them. While Russo's and Bischoff's constant manipulations of in-ring results were making fans cynical about their role in the drama, WWE was drawing us into a different breach of kayfabe: we were getting actual bios of these wrestlers and invited into their personal worlds until we cared about these people and wanted good things for some of them. We wanted Eddie to beat his demons and to rise above what life had thrown at him. We wanted Benoit to honor his mentors' legacy as well as to do what was previously impossible - to be that aerialist or "small guy" who won the big one. The image of that night, when two champions who were never meant to be embraced in the middle of Madison Square Garden with ticker tape fluttering down all around them, was an image Kevin Nash would publicly denounce as the end of the business, but privately fills him envy and longing for what he could never engender in the fans what those two did that night.

People watch what you say. Feeling strongly about things isn't bad but saying things just to piss people off is.

Either way, Nash wasn't just referring to Benoit and Guerrero, but every smaller guy in the business.
Guys like C.M. Punk and Daniel Bryan who bust their asses for years to get where they are.
They didn't just buddy up to the right people like Mr. Nash.

They didn't just buddy up to the right people like Mr. Nash. Not only that, but Nash always has his nose up Shawn Michaels' ass, yet Jericho and Punk are both physically bigger than Michaels. Did Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart "Kill the business" when they had a tremendous rivalry for the WWF Title? Weird. That "Austin era" he keeps referring to happened after that, so I guess it didn't. Also, no one has any room to say anything about Jericho's thoughts on the matter. He had to deal with Nash's bullshit first hand in WCW, and Nash insulted one of his best friends in the world who is deceased (Speaking of Eddie, not sure how he feels about Benoit anymore). He had every right to get defensive.

Nash seems to think that people reacting to his stupidity automatically equates to him being a master manipulator.

"He's got people talking and going to Grantland to read what he has to say and probably got a lot of offers for interviews pouring in to address the backlash. He went from an afterthought to the most talked about man in wrestling overnight by heeling on 4 people and trolling the internet again. Seems smart to me."

Yeah some smark websites and shoot interview companies might be interested in him for a while, and then that's it. It doesn't go beyond that. He's the most talked about man....among smarks who noticed what he said....and that's it. The attention he gets doesn't go beyond a very limited circle.
