The big studio told the director he could have reggie or mike's actor back but not both. So Don chose to have Reggie back. But all the films afterwards had the original Mike come back.

Last year at a local thrift shop I found a Betamax release of Dawn of the Dead. Somehow the tape got put in a box and I couldn't find it until a week ago. So now I have owned Dawn on 4 home media formats,Beta/VHS/Laserdisc/DVD.

153. The Long Island Cannibal Massacre* *DVD* This movie was so perfect it hurt. Terribly acted, shot, edited, written and a high level of no budget gore. There’s just so much to love about this. At every turn you’re thinking it can’t get better then something else happens. Like it was going on so awesome then these religious undertones were thrown in that were even more incredible. This is something you all must experience. 516/10

The Zodiac Killer* *Bluray* I got my hopes up way too high for this but it was really nothing special at all. It was just a bad movie. But not an enjoyably bad movie. Just a movie that I spent the entire time thinking about other bad movies I’ve watched that offered me so much more. Very disappointing

I recall thinking THE ZODIAC KILLER wasn't a bad movie, but then I don't actually remember anything about it. Like, the most interesting thing about the movie is that it was made in hopes of luring out the actual Zodiac Killer, but I don't remember anything that happened in the movie. No scenes stick out, nothing. *shrug*

I remember The Zodiac Killer and actually enjoyed it. On the other hand if you think that's bad you'll want to avoid the Something Weird triple feature DVD its on. Its by far the best movie on the set. The other movies are The Sex Killer and Zero in and Scream. The Sex Killer has a great title...and that's it. It isn't even really a horror movie. Its more a black and white drama with zero sex. Zero in and Scream features sex, but most of it is shot with 95% of the screen black. This is because the camera gives you the sight of the shooter looking through a gun scope. Being shot super low budget, with crappy film stock, with most of the shot intentionally left black is not a good mix. Even on the most advanced TV you can get I'm sure it looks crappy.
I enjoy shitty stuff like that though, so I'd recommend it.

The car hood kill was pretty memorable.
I was just let down because I learned of it through BleedingSkull.com and the shit on there is usually pretty wild. This was not wild.

155. Sting of Death* *bluray* This was a little too “Scooby Doo” for my liking but it was at least bad. The Do the Jellyfish dance sequence was terrible and went on way too long but the song was so disgustingly catchy that it was stuck in my head the entire movie. The monster was utterly ridiculous (in keeping with the Scooby Doo theme) and the acting was abysmal. If this had of been made 20 years later it could have been a no budget SOV gem.

156. Lake Michigan Monster* *bluray* This indie horror comedy tried really hard to be funny and actually succeeded a few times. But a few times wasn’t enough times to make the movie really entertaining. It got to be a bit much. As a twenty minute short film it would have been great but 78 minutes was too much.

Citizen Toxie: the Toxic Avenger Part IV* *Bluray* There is a lot to take in with this movie. If you turn away you’re going to miss something. Thankfully it’s not like there’s a whole lot of plot or character development going on that you’d have to worry about it. There is a girl motor boating a man em obese man, Corey Feldman and a lot of stuff that wouldn’t fly in 2021. I didn’t mind the first two sequels to the Toxic Avenger and I wouldn’t say this one was “better” but it came out during a totally different time and was a totally different experience.

Not horror, but you can certainly appreciate the horror aesthetic in things like Lord Humungus, I’m about to revisit the Mad Max series this weekend.
For anyone interested Amazon has a set with 2,3, and Fury Road for under $8. I picked up a Blu-ray of the first as part of a lot back in January.
It’s been 15+ years since I’ve watched any of them. I’ve probably watched all of Fury Road in chunks over the years but never at once start to finish.

Speaking of Amazon finds, I decided to complete my Texas Chainsaw Massacre collection with the newer films after all. You can find a DVD of each of the three latest ones for about $5 or so new. With some rewards points that were due to expire my total came to a bit over $13 total. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) I rewatched this for the first time in a long time today. Probably since around the time it came out. It wasn’t as bad as I remembered it. Still not good. I’d rank it above The Next Generation (1994), but below III (1990). Commercially it might be the most successful in the series. I believe it’s the only one to gross more than $100 million though adjusted for inflation the original might have grossed more. A horror film has to be pretty bad to feature Jessica Biel in her prime and still be pretty crappy. I wonder if the producers ever tried to talk her into a nude scene only to be met with, “You’re just lucky I’m doing this movie. Don’t talk me out of it.” If they were successful though they may have turned that $100 million gross into a $300 million gross. At least they could have compromised with a swimsuit scene. Okay I’ll stop. Anyway, any part that accurately recreates the original is more or less coincidence. This was clearly created for the masses so us dorkier horror fans should be lucky even to get a bone thrown to us. Case in point Leatherface’s first kill is recreated in this movie. In the original he whacks the victim with a quick stiff hammer shot and slams a door viciously. Fast. Simple. Impressively bloodless. In the remake the same kill is done, but the camera shoots it from behind with blood splattering over an old timey cartoon being projected just as a black and white fox is exclaiming. Quite a bit different. To add insult to injury Leatherface still slams a door but it is obviously a heavier door that closes comparatively slowly. All the fear that is supposed to be instilled from something that is a little too plain and too realistic is absent because in this scene we are very clearly watching a movie. Overall it’s not too bad of a watch. It’s big budget horror for better or worse.

found. *DVD* I think I’ve watched this movie five times in the last year and I still love it. It’s a beautiful coming of age story of a family losing touch with their teenage son and the little brother that worships and misses him. It just so happens that the teenage son is an absolute psychopath who’s mind has been completely warped and destroyed by horror movies. And it laid the groundwork for the equally as impressive Headless, which if you watch it’s not hard to see how that movie could affect an impressionable mind. Hell I’m 41 and whenever I watch that movie I feel a little f***ed up when it’s done. Scott Schirmer knows what he’s doing and I like his movies.

If there was I don’t think that was very good either. Yes after this there was The Beginning (2006), Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013), and Leatherface (2017). There is also a new one scheduled for this year. The only one I’ve seen of those three is Texas Chainsaw 3D which I thought was great. I don’t have high hopes for the other two. The first is a sequel to the 2003 film which I thought was bad (just not as bad as I remembered) and Leatherface, which has been pretty heavily panned and the plot doesn’t appeal to me. I’d love to be wrong, but if not it’s a shame only 1 out of 4 of the post 2000 films are really good. The older films are the opposite with only 1 of the 4 of those being really bad. To me the original is a slasher classic. The sequel as is to the original as Aliens as is to Alien. If that makes any sense. It’s a completely different kind of film that is great in a completely different way. Whereas Alien to Aliens went from methodical horror to action horror, TCM to TCM 2 went from straight slasher to campy comedy horror. III (1990) is a little paint by numbers, but fun enough. The Next Generation starts off slow, seems like it could be okay, then completely falls off the rails. P.S. Did anyone think in III (1990) that Grandpa was finally completely dead from the time he is first shown? If he wasn’t he sure would be by the end of that film as he gets shot in the head. Seemingly no blood comes out or at least not as much as you’d aspect from a guy who got shot in the head. I think by that movie he was supposed to be like how Grandma was in Part 2. He’s finally dead but the family regard him as alive. Of course he’s more alive than any of the other early films in The Next Generation, but these films don’t really aim for continuity.
