Bobby Heenan was the #1 villain in wrestling from 1979 to about 1990. How he isn't #1 boggles my mind. He was more of a comedy villain. You hated him but you also laughed at him. Compared to things like Jake Roberts having a cobra bite Randy Savage or Raven brainwashing the Sandman's son, the Brain was more of an annoyance than downright evil. But if we're just going by heat, it doesn't really matter if you were evil or annoying, it just depends on how much heat you had. And it's not like he was all comedy. The attack on Andre with Studd and Patera, where they cut his hair, may not have been a bloodbath or anything, but it wasn't a comedy segment either. Burning Pepper Gomez with a cigar is the kind of thing you won't see anymore. You have to remember, Bobby started in the '60s, and the comedy didn't get really amped up until he joined the WWF. I'm not saying it was never there before, but things were more serious along the way. He was shot at in Chicago while working for the AWA, but only other fans were hit.

The problem with Piper at #1 is that he really wasn't a heel for that much of his career. He was basically a heel from 1984-86 and was a face quite a bit in the NWA and I can't recall any lengthy decent heel run he had since the Adonis feud. I would say Rude and Dibiase would both go above Piper. Was Rude EVER a face? I am shocked at the lack of Shawn Michaels on this list. I spent most of 1992-95 despising him as a heel, and his early DX run in 1997-98 was quite possibly the best heel run in any company ever. I know that I hated him so much that I cheered for a guy I never liked before then (Austin) to beat him. Let's review the epic scumbaggery of DX Shawn: --Turned on the Undertaker and left him laying after he and HHH joined forces. --Beat the British Bulldog in the UK after Bulldog dedicated the match to his sister that had cancer. --Somehow came out on top vs. Taker at HIAC due to Kane's debut. --Got the world title in the biggest screwjob in the history of wrestling vs. Bret in Montreal. --Yet again screwed Taker in the casket match. --Acted like a total dick on TV each and every week from Aug. 1997 to March 1998. After all that who wasn't ready to buy a ticket to see this guy lose? Take a look at that list and what did Piper do by comparison? Hit Jimmy Snuka with a coconut? The antics of DX in late 97-early 98 on RAW had audiences cheering and laughing along with them. That fact pretty much explains why Michaels didn't make this list along with the fact that Michaels turned face in '95 because audiences started cheering for him whilst he was a bad guy. Unless he was up against a truly popular babyface like Austin or Taker (or well Bulldog in his home country) Michaels during that period never really got sustained heat.

The comedic slant Heenan got in the WWF (especially when he joined the commentary team) is definitely a factor as to why he wasn't ranked number 1 though. That run pretty much overshadows anywhere else he worked and he's far more remembered as a guy who had people laughing at or with him.

Watching the WWF as a kid, he would say something about Hogan, Tito, whoever, and I would laugh because it was funny. Then I'd realize he said it about someone I liked. So I'd get mad at him for trashing the guy and for making me laugh at it. Sure, watching it now, it's all laughs. But now, I'm almost 30 and know it's all a show. Then, I was a kid who desperately wanted to believe it was all real. It's really hard to compare things from different eras anyway, because things change so much from one to the next.

Im searching frantically up and down that list and can't seem to find the definition of Villain...William Regal. Where in the Blueblood Hell is he??? Not on the list, and looking at his Twitter, where he calls his omission a complete kick in the teeth, he isn't too happy about it

Edge and Shiek have dropped a few places then aha. Also that Ric Flair picture is still greatness. Has anyone else been comparing themselves standing face-to-face with each of these personalities, given the height measuring? Mickie's a short chick ...

Brian Pillman was quite a villain. He raped Marlena and filmed himself gloating over it.

Piper should be #1. Make no bones about it, the "Hot Rod" infuriated people. He was an equal-opportunity hater. If you didn't think the same way he did, you were wrong. You watch the Jimmy Snuka coconut incident; in 1984, people wanted to literally kill the man dead for that. He offended people of all races. (You fans who grew up in the Attitude era tend to forget that Roddy was the original "Loose Cannon".)
No Bossman. No Peace.
No Earthquake - for cryin' out loud, he put the Hulkster out of action and squashed Jake's snake! If that isn't a villain...?
No Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, the man who proudly broke legs and boasted about it.
And Terry Funk was listed at only #33? Look up asshole in the dictionary and there's Terry pointing at you and calling your mom a whore, all while trying to lynch poor Alfred Hayes on his own ranch. Terry should have been Top 5, easily. Switch out Ted DiBiase & Hollywood Hogan with Savage & Funk.
Now THAT'S a Top 5 I can believe.

4 pages in.... And no complaints about the lack of Stone Cold Steve Austin on this list? His run in 96/97 alone should have him somewhere in the top 50. But then add 2001 Stone Cold to the mix and he should be top 10. I guess I'm in the minority, but I'll take desperate, psychotic, brutal, guitar playing Stone Cold over pandering beer bukkake Stone Cold.

^ Austin was never really hated in both his heel runs in the WWF. The former saw the crowds turn him babyface whilst the latter run many consider a failure.

I'm actually surprised at the lack of Stephanie. And of course WHAR BOSSMAN WHAR? I agree. I remember loving to hate the "billion dollar princess" who slapped her own mother in the face for making her clean up her own room as a child. But its possible that many consider her somewhat justifiable since the initial reason for her turn was to get back at her father for endangering her just to get to austin. That and the wwe wants you to forget that she was once more over as a female heel than vickie G.

Russian's, Nazi's and evil Japs were the three most common heel characters for a long time yet I only see 1 of the three represented in the list, Ivan Koloff. Where's Fuji or Tojo Yammamoto? Where is Fritz Von Erich or Baron Von Raschke or Killer Karl Krupp?
