@jaybusbee: NASCAR driver Dick Trickle has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cringing at what's about to happen on Twitter.

What the hell is with NBC Sports not showing the fast 9?!? I get caught up for Pole Day, and NBC Sports decides to NOT make proper arrangements? WTF?!?
Jesus, and they wonder why they have a hard time making people care about Pole Day or qualifying in general anymore. Holy hell, my head hurts...

Special Ed Carpenter on pole at Indy. There's a guy who I've gone from despising due to his association with the Visionary Tony George to grudging respect to really genuinely cheering for the guy. This is a good thing, and a hellaciously fun Pole Day, coverage and weather problems not withstanding.

Jamie McMurray running away with Showdown Segment One so far.
EDIT: Won, leading all 20 laps.
Casey Mears stayed out for segment 2.

And McMurray wins it, with the star-crossed lovers joining him in the All-Star race (Stenhouse Jr with second, and (let's face it) Patrick with the fan vote).

I love how it was so in the bag that she'd win it, I called it 40 minutes ahead of time and not one person questioned it.

Best Indianapolis 500 starting positions for:
Ed Carpenter - 1st; previous best 8th in 2010 and 2011 Carlos Muñoz - 2nd; rookie Marco Andretti - 3rd; previous best 4th in 2012 EJ Viso - 4th; previous best 9th in 2012 AJ Allmendinger - 5th; rookie JR Hildebrand - 10th; previous best 12th in 2011 Simon Pagenaud - 21st; previous best 23rd in 2012
Sebastien Bourdais matched his previous best of 15th in 2005.
Not too surprising that Chevy had the top-nine. I think Newgarden was the only Honda in the top-nine last year. If the Chevys can get better mileage this year than they did last year Honda could be in big trouble for the race itself. Really impressed with Muñoz so far, he's been taking some wild lines around the Speedway and he's been making them work for him. Would be pretty cool for any of the front row to win it.
