That's the one, should give you enough to go with.
If you care enough, you could go read Siege (which isn't actually a bad event, just a poor ending)

Sucked the maximum amount of balls going and is the literal definition of a Marvel event that was an event for the sake of an event.
Avoid at all costs (although the Kid Loki involvement is well written because Gillen)

Fear Itself would've been fine if it had been confined to being a Captain America/Thor crossover. it just sucked when it ended up being a crossover involving everyone like every other terrible Marvel "big event" of the last few years.

They haven't all been terrible, but certainly Fear Itself was the worst

Has there been another event as universally loathed as Fear Itself that created something as universally loved as Kid Loki?

Would Civil War count, which led to Cap's supposed "death", which led to Bucky Barnes becoming Captain America for a good while?

Civil War is a bit of a marmite event. Some people love it, some people hate it.
I think it was an interesting idea, it was just poorly executed and then inconsistent writing around it made some characters quite detestable.

Yeah, Civil War was more "like it or hate it" as opposed to FI's "hate it". Though Bucky becoming Captain America was well done, even if it ended up being taken back like every consequence of a Marvel event.

I like to rag on the Marvel events, but if the opposite is the 'baby out with the bath water' DC events, then I'll take getting the usual SQ back a few months after the conclusion myself.

Maybe she should take that as a wake up call and actually write a good book.

CW isnt universally loathed though. I dont think I have seen anyone try to defend Fear Itself anywhere, ever We got a Winter Soldier series out of FI. Granted, I'd rather have Bucky remained Cap (was digging Steve's new role) but this wasn't a bad thing and hasn't let us down yet.

well, it's a lose connection at best, but Fear Itself was the event where we literally got Giant-Size Man-Thing.

Though, was Bucky not dying always intended or did they quickly try to fix that due to the backlash over his death?

from what I heard Brubaker had big plans for Bucky and nobody told him they were killing him off until after the issue was solicited. he was pretty pissed and used his pull to get it undone. that's why it happened so fast. it's probably also one of the reasons Brubaker's leaving Marvel to work on his creator-owned stuff.
