Robert Kirkman's other long running series, INVINCIBLE, hits #100 in a couple months. And like WALKING DEAD there will be a few variants (by Art Adams, Charles Adlard, Marc Silvestri and others).....including one that may look familiar.... ....and yes, it'll be chromium too. Ha.

A Marvel Question,
I'm wanting to get back into X-men but the last thing I read was "Utopia".
am I ok to jump on from Post "Schism" books (Whatever their books are, X-men confuses me) or is Necrosia - Schism mandatory?

Schism was just this dumb thing where Cyclops, to make it look like he was Magneto Jr even more, only wanted to talk about the X kids as soldiers and wanted to train them and make them fight. Wolverine said no, that was bad, and re-opened the old Xavier school as the Jean Grey school, taking some X-Men like Beast, Kitty Pryde and Iceman with him to act as faculty.
The good thing about Schism was the Gillen's runs on Uncanny and Generation Hope are great stuff.
The bad was the general idea and Wolverine pushing and that fact that we got Wolverine and the X-Men by Jason Aaron, one of the worst comics I've read in decades. Seriously, it's just god awful. Mainly for one thing......Hellfire tweens......
Ignore it all, jump straight to AvX and the X world after that event.

X-Necrosha isn't mandatory - it's mainly the resolution of what X-Force was doing at the time. It's also Marvel's Blackest Night, very oddly times to occur around the same exact time as Blackest Night (BN was rolled out first though)
But I would read Schism. Don't skip the event (I think there were prelude issues to that too); it's important to understanding the division of the entire team afterwards, and also leads to the happenings of Avengers Vs. X-Men.

All New X-Men is pretty good to. Didn't expect it from Bendis but he's doing a good job so far.

^But unlike Marvel, DC prices their TPBs very reasonably.
They still do the 6-issue/$14.99 books. And several of their New 52 HCs and trades included more than 6 issues.

I suppose it's a case of both are good in their own way, but I find Marvel trades at decent prices online. But in store they're pathetic, Siege is way overpriced compared to online

Forgot to mention on the same day I went ahead and bought Amazing #700 ( still love that collage cover; story be damned), I picked up a trade of Giffen/Dematties/Maguire's Defenders mini-series for three dollars. Hilarious stuff. I'd recommend it, if you haven't read it. From Dr. Strange being melodramatic, to Dormmamu being ineffectual, Namor being insufferable, the Surfer hanging out with beach bums, and the Hulk having sex with Umar- Dormammu's sister ( and not at all satisfying her); it's great fun.

I always find it hard to suggest new X-men titles to people. ever since Morrison left it's just been a convoluted mess and they change the status quo every other year so it's very hard to follow. when it comes to X-books you're better off just cherry picking trades based on story arcs that sound interesting and you might as well wash your hands of reading a specific run on the book beginning to end. you could literally read Messiah Complex-Messiah War-Second Coming without even touching any of the ongoings. so I have to say just forget about the post-Schism stuff because they've already ditched it in favor of whatever Bendis is doing. on top of that Wolverine and the X-men would be an okay book but Jason Aaron has some strange fixation with making a bunch of 10 year olds into believable villains and he's failing miserably at it. just stick with Bendis' All new X-men (which I hear is fantastic) instead. and if you haven't started it yet, I strongly suggest Rick Rememder's run on Uncanny X-Force that just finished. it was a modern classic, the first 5 trades are out already and the last 2 should be out shortly.

I don't get why that creative combo doesn't get more work. I loved their Superbuddies work, some of the most underrated Superhero-comedy I've ever read.

I was actually enjoying Wolverine & The X-Men when it started, even though I thought the Hellfire Club was a horrible idea. Then AvX slowed it down and I thought "OK, it'll pick back up once the crossover's done". Then the crossover ended and they went right back to the awful new Hellfire Club.
There is not a stupid Spider-Man storyline that can compare to just how horrible the new Hellfire Club is. They honestly get my vote for worst villains of all time...and they dominate the book like they're tween Dr Dooms. Finally dropped the book in disgust and regret.

I know this may sound like hyperbole, but the Hellfire Brats are far and away the worst X-men villains of all time. even worse than all the forgettable ones from Rob Liefeld's run on New Mutants/X-Force. there might be some writer out there who could make a bunch of 10 year old normal human children believeable villains, but Jason Aaron is not that writer.

DeMatteis, Giffen and Maguire wanted to do a New Gods back when New 52 began. In their infinite wisdom, DC said "no." Giffen is entrenched at DC nonetheless, DeMatteis plays all over the place, and Maguire......sadly doesn't do much art.

I think the issue with DeM/G is that they simply dont know when to stop.
They both write some great stuff apart, they can both write some great stuff together, but when they get their comedy heads on, they cant seem to find the point at where to stop and finish the joke. They keep it going and going and going to the point that it becomes absurd.
And not Ancient Greek style either, just plain bad absurd.

About Spider-Man #700, that gave me the same feeling when I was a kid during the clone saga:
How in the blue hell is a person supposed to root for the guy who killed Peter Parker and who's now parading around in Paker's body, banging Parker's love interests, and spending time with Parker's friends and family that he just minutes ago JUST tried to kill? That redemption crap was so lame and lazily written that it just doesn't make up for it.
Zero interest in following spider-man after that issue.
