Just finished the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy in one sitting. Was planning on all four but its getting late so the last will have to wait until morning.
Now I wish I'd gone to see them at the movies. It was tremendous fun, Depp in particular, Sparrow in the hands of someone else would not have worked.
Anyway, I was wondering if there were any fans of the franchise here?

The first movie was really good.
Didn't really need to be a franchise.

I rank them from best to worst 1 4 2 3
I like the franchise, and I'm looking forward to 5. I just want more ham-to-ham combat between Depp and Rush

The worst Pirates movie is better than the best Transformers.

I love them all except On Stranger Tides. It's not a "bad" movie, but it is EXTREMELY uninteresting. It's like they were going through the motions and didn't even try. The mermaid attack was the ONLY worthwhile part of the movie.

Woah that's crazy, the second and third seemed to drag on forever and although they had their bright spots I wouldn't want to watch them back-to-back.
The first movie was awesome though.

I loved, loved the first movie. The second movie was alright. The third movie tried to revolve around a mythos that really shouldn't exist.

Yeah I like them. Still to see OST though but will buy it on blu-ray eventually
I remember seeing the 3rd one in cinemas and bursting to go to the toilet but figured since it was probably near the end I would just wait..........45 mins later when I finally got to the toilet man was I relieved lol

Honestly, unless you're a diehard fan of the series, On Stranger Tides isn't worth it.

Love the first 3, usually forget that I even saw the fourth one. Just like Indiana Jones!

I love the first one, it's easily one of Disney's best movies.
The second is pretty solid, I love Jack Davenport's performance as the down-and-out Norrington. Frustrating beyond belief that they didn't build on that enough in the third one.
The third has a lot of fat that could have been trimmed, and a load of unsatisfying payoffs (like Norrington's). The final battle is epic though.
The fourth is alternately fun and dull. Jack's escapade in London and the mermaid attack are great, but the rest is quite tedious. Geoffrey Rush is great throughout though.

There. I just saved you 2 long, lifeless hours. You're welcome. Watching that scene, 2 things come to mind. First, Gemma Ward (main mermaid) can lure me to my doom any time! Second, it's amazing the lengths they'll go to to avoid showing nipples in a Disney movie.

The first movie was really good. Didn't really need to be a franchise. My thoughts exactly, the two original sequels (haven't seen OST) were just overcomplicated messes IMO. There's probably enough ok material between them to make one decent sequel, but studios seem to be obsessed with trilogies now, which doesn't make for good storytelling. It's like the Matrix and Transformers: solid first film, studio gets overexcited and releases two crazy overbooked messes as sequels. A real peeve of mine is when the makers of these movies try to make them deeper by putting in a million underdeveloped plot lines instead of making any of them makes sense or actually make them any good - it often seems to work as I know a lot of people who think overcomplicated special effects mess = clever and good movie. Another thing is that Jack Sparrow is fun and charming in the first movie. People loved it, so they made him even more zany for the sequels and it meant that the character jumped the shark IMO.

I just recently watched the fourth movie on DVD from Netflix. It didn't really impress me. When Jack Sparrow was on screen doing what he does it was really fun and entertaining, but when it came time for one of the new characters to carry the movie it just fell flat. Even Barbossa, who I really liked in the original trilogy, lost all his charm and just become an almost frothing madman (which I guess makes sense considering what happened to him, but doesn't make the movie entertaining).
And my God how painfully bad was that subplot romance between the Preacher and the Mermaid? Will and Elizabeth these two were not. Most of the time it felt like they were acting in a completely different movie from everybody else.
