Did Belcher suffer some head trauma during his college or pro days? I really don't know any of his history but you just don't kill your child's mother and yourself on a whim. Something had to be wrong. As far as I know, Belcher never suffered any injuries to the head. And I don't think he had any demons in his closet. He was a nice, hard working, high motor player. This is another Benoit situation, sadly. Benoit's brain was ravaged by untreated concussions along with the tolls taken on his body by drug abuse. Outside of being a murder-suicide the two situations are really different if Belcher never suffered any head traumas.

This is just shocking news. From what I've read Belcher never had any sort of criminal history. Who knows if we'll ever find out what posessed him to do something like this? I doubt we ever will. There will be a million different reasons given but no way to know for sure. Injuries causing mental issues, stress, maybe it's just who he was. Sadly for the families, friends, teammates, the teams, the NFL and fans, we'll never really know.

While I don't think he had any head trauma, we'll have to wait for his brain to be examined. Just a sad, horrific day.

Appears to be confirmation that the NFL have advised the Carolina Panthers to travel to Kansas City as planned.

Appears to be confirmation that the NFL have advised the Carolina Panthers to travel to Kansas City as planned. I'm sure that's just a formality and the league will leave it up to the Chiefs on whether they want to play or not. There's no way that the league can make the game go on if the Chiefs don't want to play.

@jayglazer: NFL has full plans to play Chiefs game tomorrow. No changes for right now. See how it unfolds

They can't play tomorrow, they just can't. I know this is on a significantly smaller scale, but if the Panthers and Chiefs take the field tomorrow, this will be Roger Goodell's version of Pete Rozelle choosing to play a full slate of games two days after John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
Even though all involved parties may say the right thing to do is to play, there's no way their heads or hearts could fully be in it. Postpone it until Monday or Tuesday and let all involved parties have some time to grieve. Now's not the time to worry about refunding tickets or adjusting television schedules.

See how it unfolds I'm hoping that they respect the feelings of The Chiefs players and give them the final say on whether or not they should play tomorrow, since this should be a time for them to mourn their loss. They just had a teammate kill himself and his girlfriend a few hours ago. If the team is up to it, then yeah, they should play. If not, they should easily be able to postpone the game to next week.

Case in point, Steve Johnson's TD celebration mocking Plaxico Burress.

As a Chiefs fan, this just shocks me, everything about it. Jovan Belcher was a player I respected because he was undrafted out of Maine University and made the team as a starter through hard work and determination. And then to just now hear this....its sickening, all of it. Same thing going through my mind. This entire situation just gives me a huge sinking feeling.

Anyone remember how much time passed between Chris Henry's death and the Bengals' next game? I don't remember the exact timeframe, but I remember watching the game. Ochocinco's breaking down after scoring a TD is the sort of thing that burns into your head.

Anyone remember how much time passed between Chris Henry's death and the Bengals' next game? I don't remember the exact timeframe, but I remember watching the game. Ochocinco's breaking down after scoring a TD is the sort of thing that burns into your head. Four days. Henry died on Dec. 16 and the Bengals played in San Diego on Dec. 20. Because there's always one stupid player who thinks he has to be a smart ass. Case in point, Steve Johnson's TD celebration mocking Plaxico Burress. That came three years after it had happened, which was also well after it became a national laughingstock. Everyone chuckled at it except for the self-righteous and holier-than-thou Bob Costas. What happened here is a completely different situation and is not a laughing matter by any stretch of the imagination. With the exception of people on Twitter and YouTube commenters, there is no one low enough to stoop to the level of cracking jokes about it 24-plus hours after it happened.

There's a pretty huge difference between mocking a player for being a dumbass and mocking the memory of a player who killed himself and someone else. I don't think anyone is classless enough on the Panthers, or any team, to do something that idiotic.

There's a huge difference between mocking a dumbass that Cheddar Bob'd himself, and using a gun motion when a player on the opposing team just killed his girlfriend, and then himself(at the stadium) I know that the NFL has some morons in it, but no one would be that stupid.

Just heard on ESPN that police confirmed it was Belcher. And his mom witnessed the shooting.
Good lord.

I know there's a huge difference. But there's always that chance.
