As far as I know, Belcher never suffered any injuries to the head. And I don't think he had any demons in his closet. He was a nice, hard working, high motor player. This is another Benoit situation, sadly. Benoit's brain was ravaged by untreated concussions along with the tolls taken on his body by drug abuse. Outside of being a murder-suicide the two situations are really different if Belcher never suffered any head traumas. And you can bet that Colin Cowherd and Mark Schlereth will give this one more respect than the Benoit situation. They are jackasses like that.

Just... wow - there's really not much else that one can say at a time like this. I really don't think they'll play the game, and I can't imagine the Panthers would want to face a team that just had to go through that, knowing that it would constantly be on their mind. Just a sad, sad situation.

This is a sad day. I hope Chiefs, and everyone in the organization and across their fan nation will recover from this tragedy with hope and resolution.

Nothing has gone right for the Chiefs. It's like things just get worse and worse.
I suddenly feel bad about the jokes I had made about KC since week 3.

Belcher's agent on twitter is donating $1 for every RT of this message: "As Jovan's agent.... One RT= $1 Dollar donation to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention... afsp.org"
Apparently, Andrew Bynum will add $2 to every RT on top of that. Some money will also be put in a trust for his daughter.

Chiefs have announced the game will go on as scheduled tomorrow. I don't know how anyone can watch that game. Or play in it.

Chris Mortensen @mortreport
Decision to play Chiefs-Panthers game as scheduled came after discussions with NFL, NFLPA, coach Romeo Crennel, team officials & team capts

If the team wants to play then they play. It shouldn't be anymore complex than that.

I don't agree with it personally, but it was ultimately left to the discretion of the Kansas City Chiefs and they decided to play, which is their decision. It's is significantly better than the commissioner or the league forcing anyone's hand.

My prayers and condolences go out to their families and especially to their little child. That is such a sad situation.

So what would it take for the NFL to postpone a game? If this had happened Sunday morning?

I can't really see Schlereth doing something like that.

I don't agree with the decision to play the game at all, but the Chiefs want to play and it's their decision to make. The whole situation sucks and is incredibly sad.
