Saying Lita was the best female heel of her era is really saying something. Melina and Mickie James weren't exactly weak competition compared to most female heel characters, both of whom being quite successful as well. But Lita...she was one of the best heels of the past ten years of either sex.

I gotta admit, though, while I loved Lita as a heel retroactively (Yeah, I was in the boat of people that hated her for what she did, human nature), I gotta admit I was annoyed with every opportunity taken to drill in the fact that "she's a whore derpdederp", as well as her way out. I mean c'mon, she lost the Women's belt on her way out, WHY WOULD YOU ADD SALT TO THE WOUND? Concerning the latter, the golden rule of wrestling is to go out on your back and, if you can, put someone over on your way out. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think the real question is "why didn't Trish lose the title on her way out?" I know she's sort of the WWE's golden girl, but come on. I kinda wonder for Edge too, but then again, part of me thinks they kept the title on him because they never expected him to retire a week or two removed from WrestleMania. As for the former, though; that was brutal and unnecessary, especially given what we now know to be the truth- that she was essentially "slut shamed" for not even doing anything with Edge until her relationship was over with Matt (who, incidentally, cheated on her, if I'm not mistaken). She got a real raw deal, for no reason. Matt even admitted to seeing other women during the majority of their relationship and that the girl he immediately started sleeping with after they broke up was the same girl he used to mess around with when Lita was injured/their relationship first started. IIRC there was even a Cena interview immediately after Matt got released where he said that while he was sympathetic to Matt, there was "another side of the story that he couldn't speak on". Pretty sad deal for her, but at least most fans can forgive and forget now...not that it was any of their business anyway. I remember she got angry because Matt demanded that she "apologize to the Internet" for leaving him. I think it really helped her that she spent most of her time working in the men's division and not just the women's. She was involved in main event feuds from '05-'06 with some greats while working with Edge. I think the only woman who's done work that might come close in the past 10 years was Vickie, and she's never worked with HBK, Flair, Dreamer or Foley like Lita had the opportunity to...not to mention the nasty bumps she took in the process.

The fans were just determined to boo Lita when the whole Matt Hardy thing came out so they had to run with it really.

I didn't care for heel Lita. I guess it was a...thing...for them to ride the wave of Lita hatred to turn her and she did a decent job with it. It's just why and how it happened tarnished the run for me.

OK I gotta say even as a female those boobs defied the laws of physics: I am eternally shocked wrestling fans booed that and wanted it to go away lol but I guess she did a very good job of being hated!

So let me get this straight since I'm not completely in on the details between Matt and Lita... So Lita did indeed cheat on Matt with Edge but Matt was the one who cheated initially? See, I don't know all the details. I saw the Hardys dvd on the issue and I was shocked with the whole mess, even when it happened through real time I was supposed, I'm just confused. So Lita cheating can pretty much be contributed to Matt cheating and she's naturally the "good girl" persay given she didn't do it first and she wasn't treated well by Matt? If anyone can break it down I'd appreciate it.

Francine > Lita and all the rest. She was the most believable in her complete dedication to her man.

I remember when Trish struggled to even get a promo out over all the loud boos and 'slut' chants that Lita was getting by the live crowd so I guess in that regards yes Lita was easily the most successful heel.
I think Vickie has her beat by today's standards, and she did it without getting her virtuous Guerrero name dragged through the mud. (which is ironic because Vickie basically stole Lita's gimmick, Lita's boyfriend, and literally was dragged through the mud on one PPV when she fought a cross-dressing Santino...)
But yeah, Lita's still one of the, if not the hottest of all time. Her appearance on the Muppet RAW was an early Christmas gift!

*sigh* I find it kinda sad when people "speculate" about a wrestler's personal life.
Anyway, she did play a good heel but I always preferred Lita as a face since I have always liked high flying faces.

I'm amazed she never had a major wardrobe malfunction during that period. Some of those outfits were just accidents waiting to happen, especially given the amount of physicality she was often involved in.
As far as her heel persona goes, she was very good. She and Edge just did that whole trashy couple thing really well, and her presence was invaluable toward crafting his Rated R persona. Kinda sad how it all came about though, and I always kinda wondered if she was really comfortable playing that character.

But that was more of a blanket malfunction.

Absolutely. Heel Trish and early heel Melina were good, but Lita really took the cake.
I feel that the only one to come close to that kind of diva heeldom since she left has been Michelle McCool. It'd have been interesting to see what would have happened if 2006 Lita and 2010 McCool had ever collided.

Okay, regarding the whole Matt Hardy situation, I read about a shoot interview that he did back in 2005 or 2006 I believe. I didn't watch it, but I read what he talked about. There was even a picture in the review of some woman he was seeing that had both Matt and this very hot woman. If that was really the case, I wouldn't blame Lita for cheating.
Anyway, as for the character, I thought she portrayed a heel well. She looked a lot hotter in that role. Like someone mentioned, she looked scorchingly hot in that outfit she wore at Vengeance 2005. Someone on here has an image of her wearing that as a sig, by the way. Plus, I can't help but think she looked sexy at Wrestlemania 22 with her wearing an open Rated R Superstar button down with her showing off her body.

The whole Matt/Lita/Edge thing was pretty complicated. There were various interviews done and Matt changed his story a lot. Going by what Jeff, Matt, Lita, Edge and even Cena (gasp!) said on the subject--
1. Matt was not faithful, he cheated on her frequently with his ex throughout their relationship which led to Lita frequently feeling depressed. He also insulted her and compared the two a lot causing her self-esteem issues
2. Lita was frequently unhappy and Matt didn't treat her like a girlfriend
3. Matt was controlling and manipulative, and verbally abusive according to Jeff
4. Their relationship was rough for a long time and Edge always was in love with/had a thing for Lita dating back to 2000 or so and would hit on her/flirt with her when the other guys were around. Edge's feelings were so strong his wife didn't even want Lita at the wedding.
5. The affair was actually only emotional until Matt and Lita broke up and Edge and his wife separated to file for divorce. Prior to that he'd tried to get physical with her but she rejected him. Her relationship with Matt broke down when she realized she was actually in love with Edge and couldn't stop thinking about him.
6. Matt tried to get her back but was unsuccessful by the time she started seeing Edge, and even tried to see her and his other ex at the same time for a period. This pissed Edge off, who publicly trashed him over it.
There's more, but that's the abridged version from lots of shoot interviews on the subject.
