Anyone know if there is such a thing as holiday pay for those that work there part time? I'm betting not I would bet that there isn't holiday pay for anyone working in a McDonald's restaurant. I worked for Kroger for 5 years and never got any holiday off with pay. For full time people, Christmas is just your 2nd day off that week. Kroger is a union company and the only people who got any holiday pay were the ones that had been with the company since 1987 or longer. On topic, I don't see a problem with McDonald's being open if the workers are given a choice to work or not. But since it is McDonald's, I highly doubt that will be on the table.... Yea. From what I've gathered is it might not be mandatory for a particular restaurant to be open, but I think the managers will be afraid not to go along with the main man's wishes. So, employees lose Christmas, get paid the same and it's just another day for them.

Will they serve a peppermint version of the Shamrock Shake? No? Then no buys.

I wonder if they'll have the same amount, a lesser amount, or a LOT of customers on that day since it's kind of a novelty to have it open on Christmas, they are probably the main restaurant on everyone's minds since they are in the news with this story.
If they have more, I'm betting that it means several impatient pricks who will make the day harder on the employees.

Yeah, my local McDonalds is open Christmas. Probably won't go anyway, though.

I really don't see the issue about restaurants being open on Christmas. It's a tradition to eat at IHOP or Denny's on Christmas morning with my mom and her hubby.

Seriously, if you are a McDonald's employee and are forced to work Christmas, just quit. You are likely getting paid less than 9 bucks an hour and, honestly, if that is the type of job you are in the market for, you can find another one fairly quickly even in this economy.

Eh, let them work. They'll get additional pay for working a holiday and its a day that probably won't be that busy either.
McDonald's being open isn't that big of a deal. Lots of places, like a movie theater for example, are open on Christmas.

I remember in the 1990s you could be like the only one in the theater. Now everyone and thier mother go. Jerks

Jerks Anywhere with a decent sized Jewish population is going to have pretty busy movie theaters on Christmas day (usually right before or after eating previously mentioned Chinese food). Though I've been noticing more and more gentiles showing up the past few years.

I can't see the benefit even really paying the staff's wages for that day, much less turning a profit. Seems a stupid idea.

I've worked at a movie theater for the past 6 years. We're open 365 days a year. I've worked my fair share of Christmases, Thanksgivings, Easters, New Years, etc. It wasn't on a volunteer basis either. Sometimes you just have to work. Sometimes life is lame.

If I was forced to work on Christmas Day at a minimum wage job, I'd just flat out quit. It wouldn't be worth it. Having to work every other Holiday is bad enough, but Christmas Day itself, no thanks.

For me it's the principle. I feel like George Costanza in that way. If something was messed up he'd go on about and fight it, where the average person would just say "screw it, I'll put up with it even though it's bullshit"
f*** that
