I don't get Sega's move. Are they trying to be a specialized western-produce PC game publisher? Because Relic and Sega really don't mix for me. Especially when they, supposedly, don't have that much money to spend (hence why some projects like Bayonetta 2 are the way they are).

Sega currently publishes the Total War series and they also published Alpha Protocol for Obsidian so it actually does make some sense for them.

To be fair, they didn't have much money for Bayonetta 2 because Bayonetta wasn't a great seller so of course they weren't going to be expected to fund a sequel. And if Relic can do another RTS game, it'll fit Sega like a glove. Even then, that Warhammer 4K licence is money.

Sucks for Vigil and the Darksiders series........ Still.....a Crytek made Homefront game? f***. Yes. Crytek has been working on Homefront 2 for a very long time now. That isn't news, they just get to publish the game they were making now, or more likely have another company publish it... EA, yep.

Does Sega get the Warhammer 40k license along with Relic? I'm not sure how THQ's license agreements work.

I just said Bayonetta 2 because it was the first example that popped into my head, because there were reports of a few projects being canned last year from Sega. And I know that Sega publishes strategy games (even manager games, like Football Manager, which is a sure fire money maker) but those are mostly far between them. Relic basically just makes strategy games, and I don't feel that a company like that really fits within Sega. That and they gave over 20M for them. The Warhammer 40K licence better come along with it.

The way I look at Sega gobbling up Western RTS studios is like how Square-Enix bought Eidos. It is a move to allow a Japanese publisher make Western aimed games without forcing Japanese studios to make poor facsimiles of Western made games or to try and change a traditionally Japanese franchise into a Western franchise(aka the Konami/Capcom approach).
Also Relic CAN make non-RTS games, case in point 2011's incredibly fun(if needing a little bit more polish) Space Marine.

I guess this would be the thread to ask - why do people not like Homefront that much? I haven't played it, but I thought it seemed like a really cool game, but it doesn't seem like it fared too well.

The Warhammer 40K licence better come along with it. Sega owns Creative Assembly, another studio like Relic that makes only RTS games, in this case the legendary Total War series. With acquiring Relic Sega has made themselves the premier RTS publisher, IMO.

Well, they tried to release a slightly above average modern/near future FPS against CoD and others. It isn't a bad game and the multiplayer was pretty awesome mixing CoD with Battlefield. It just never stood a chance. In no ways a bad game. Just not the right time for it and it could have been better in every way, it wasn't bad in any way which meant it really didn't stand out.

Didn't help that they hyped the game up on its single player mode and how it was written by this famous author. And yet it was the weakest part of the game far and away. If they focused on the multiplayer only it would'be faired better.

It just wasn't a very good game. There was also a lot of BS between the studio and THQ's brass.

Not sure how I feel about that, though if they treat WWE with the same respect they show the NBA, that's a huge improvement over THQ/Yuke's.

Don't forget, Take-Two actively hates the fact that they're stuck with the MLB license, so maybe they'll put some effort into the WWE games.

Damn, Koch REALLY wanted the Saints Row series, didn't they? They outbid Ubisoft by 4 times the amount. Have they done anything with video games before?

As already mentioned they are the company that owns the game publisher Deep Silver, who has mostly published really small time games or did the European releases of a few "major" games. Their big time games have been the Dead Island games.

Yeah, either we're going to have something really awesome (NBA 2k) or we're going to have a bad time (MLB 2k). Really hoping it's the former. Though they could just do what THQ did and Yuke's continues to develop it, which would mean possibly a slight improvement to status quo if the 2K guys are involved with its development and are more competent than Cory Ledesma and Co..
