Keep doing what you do King. To the people complaining, you knew what you were getting into when you clicked the thread. If you don't want to read it don't click it. That doesn't work when the thread title tells you exactly what happens, now does it? Still don't have to click it. Unless the King can reach through the internet and strangle you. He can't do that yet, can he?

He can't do that yet, can he? To be fair, I can see why regularly seeing several versions of the same type of threads can get annoying and would drive one to ask people to tone it down. I mean, if you ignore it and it keeps happening, at some point you've got to set the record straight (I know I for one am sick of seeing so many forums clogged with "Subcultures I have no reason to care about are ruining my life" threads). With that said, I don't really have a problem with KG's threads, aside from the fact that they depress me, but I can see why others would.

That doesn't work when the thread title tells you exactly what happens, now does it? Still don't have to click it. Ummm...what's the difference, at that point? As the previous poster tried to explain to you, the story is summarized in the thread title. It is impossible to avoid reading a summary of the story. I didn't click on this thread and read the story. I was scrolling through the thread titles, saw the summary of a story, and voiced my displeasure at having depressing stories story summaries force-fed to every member of this board.

As ho-hum as it's gotten, this is like the smartest forum gimmick ever.
It's not like Ghidorah can get censured (or censored) for posting news stories, but he leaves his mark on the entire board with just two or three clicks of his mouse.
It's like Dr. Doom's diplomatic immunity translated to the internet.

I think i'm going to go and jerk off in the street with anti law slogans on my chest in lipstick. It's alright - you don't have to look.

It's like Dr. Doom's diplomatic immunity translated to the internet. Well, let's be careful: I'm not about to indict KG here, but as a general rule we have to appreciate that forums of various kinds sometimes have to make "business decisions" concerning how their boards are viewed. As an example, there's a New Jersey Devils hockey board I go to regularly, and one poster has gotten on most people's nerves, pretty far beyond what KG's gimmick is here but still not technically breaking any rules. Yet there's a strong request among most regulars to outright ban the guy because his presence, and the fact that many people are baited into responding to his presence, makes the board seem less accessible to new users, and hurts participation. Again, I'm not indicting KG in this instance, but I'd warn against forum goers who want to do things like that on almost any forum. These are privately run places, and if somebody feels a member is being destructive in some way to the overall health or tone of the board at large, that person might take action.

How do you get into a situation where you have a gun in the same room as a 2 year old and nobody is watching either of them?

Not exactly a fan of Ghidorah's so-called gimmick, but the fact is, if we don't read it here, we'll read in on Facebook or twitter, see it during the evening news or in the newspaper, etc. In this day and age, it's not hard to find these types of stories. Besides, its not like Ghidorah is the only one postin them; he just gets more notoriety.

There's a big difference between hearing something like this on the evening news and the Off Topic part of this board, though. It's expected that the newspaper/evening news is going to be filled with misery. Coming here to read people's latest opinions on comics and Django Unchained and constantly getting "Rabid Wolves Attack Cutest Girl Scout Troop in America" posts appear between them just so someone can have a "gimmick" is not expected. And it also seems to have more than run out its welcome.

I'm not at all opposed to the big stories being posted and discussed here. Sandy Hook? We're not going to avoid hearing about it, no matter what size rock we're living under. Firefighter ambush? It's a top story, no matter where you go. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, but I have obviously heard lots about both.
But hunting through news sites to find relatively obscure stories and then post them on this board with no analysis for the sole purposes of (1) maintaining a gimmick and (2) trying to make people sad? That serves no purpose here, and it makes this board much worse. Most of the stories posted by King Ghidorah are stories that I honestly haven't seen anywhere else.
I mean, if I can get a warning for offending nobody by transcribing a laughing sound as "hyuk, hyuk," why is a gimmick that has received numerous complaints defended so steadfastly?
I'm not saying that he shouldn't be allowed to post them, but I'd like to see some way of keeping the story summary out of the thread title. We have "all-purpose" threads for many other topics--why not one for depressing news as well? That way, only the people interested in reading about these things have to see them.

At least when I link to random stories its stupid criminals or dumb actions that people take, no one is dying or getting severely hurt. I try to keep the topics light yet enjoyable and get people to make jokes and not be depressed about the world we live in.

Ghidorah won. He got his own meme picture. Bless you Ghidorah while I cry myself to sleep now.

Is it wrong my mind immediately went to the scene from Family Guy where Stewie puts the gun in his mouth after seeing Peter's Surfing Bird dance.
Yeah, it probably is.

I bet there's more to the story. I'd bring the parent or guardian up on involuntary manslaughter chages

I'm in favor of an all purpose Ghidorah news thread.
We've actually already had a discussion earlier in the year about the amount of depressing news threads on here. That was mainly because many other posters were copying Ghidorah's gimmick of posting depressing news stories so we had a brief span of time where nearly the entire front page of Off Topic was depressing news threads. It had gotten out of hand then, and right now it is slowly starting to get out of hand once more, IMO. And I like Ghidorah. He seems like a stand up guy so I don't want him to be say punished or anything but I also want the visibility of his depressing news threads to limited.
An all purpose Ghidorah depressing news thread is a fair compromise.
