He always knows what to do in a danger situation.
Surrender or retreat while putting himself first.

Here is a little funfact.
When developing the show. Actors who unsuccessfully auditioned for Rimmer were: Norman Lovett (played Holly in series 1, 2, 7 and 8 instead) David Baddiel (of Three Lions fame), Hugh Laurie, and Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus in 'Spider-Man 2').
Actually Molina was cast, but for some reason the part was recast and Chris Barrie got the par.

Ive been pretty hardh on Red Dwarf in the past. Used to love it as a child but rewatching as an adult I found the humour to be awful. I got my girlfriend the box set for christmas as she had been wanting to rewatch it for a while and My opinion has near done a 180. Whilst I still dislike the majority of the jokes, story wise the show is actually really enjoyable and Ive become a bit addicted

Who would put this man, this joke of a man, a man who could not outwit a used teabag, in a position in which he could endanger the entire crew?
Who? Only a yogurt.

Which, if you've ever seen Craig Bierko, you know is staggeringly inappropriate casting, even he thought so. Also Cat was going to be a girl. As was Holly. Here's a picture.

The fact that Chris Barrie and Danny John-Jules were approached to replace the actors initially cast as Rimmer and Cat in an attempt to fix the mess that was Red Dwarf USA speaks volumes. Of course, Barrie turned down the offer and the project was dead before DJJ made a decision.

He always knows what to do in a danger situation. Surrender or retreat while putting himself first. He did manage to win the war on Waxworld.
