How does that compare to the Wii? It seemed like there was a lot less buzz.

Damn... I haven't heard anything about the Wii U really... kinda hard to believe it's doing better than the original Wii was at this point.

They make a profit off Hardware + 1 game with the Wii U, it'll bring in cash for a bit.

They make a profit off Hardware + 1 game with the Wii U, it'll bring in cash for a bit. But they'll make more money off of software from there being more hardware sold. So really selling more units is more important. And again it has only brought in a marginally better profit while having a vastly higher price point. That means unit wise it is more than likely behind the Wii.

And being behind the Wii in units sold is nothing to be ashamed of, everything is behind the Wii, and everything has a higher price point than the Wii. Comparing any hardware to the Wii is odd, because the Wii had an abysmal software attachment rate. I mean, he Wii U right now has made more money than the Wii has in the same amount of time, and the Wii was constantly sold out. I think Nintendo will be ok.

More like 200k fewer units than the Wii in that same period.
As for the quality of the console, it's barely up to par with the 360 and PS3, and the upcoming releases from any company not named Nintendo don't look promising.

The console's still young. Games shouldn't be a problem, considering it should have the power to handle PS3/360 games.
I would hardly call it a shitty console.

Interesting that Nintendo is trying to frame the story by only reporting revenue earned, and not units sold/shipped in North America. They're pulling a "Sony" in many ways by doing this selective reporting but IMO it's an impressive feat to get that many unit sold with only a handful of decent launch games available. People seem to know that Nintendo 1st party titles will deliver and that's enough incentive to buy a Wii U.
But they're probably going to 'fail' like Sony did with the PS3-- in that the success of the PS2 farrrrrrr outpaced the success of the PS3. Just like the Wii will farrrrr outpace anything Wii U will do in the end.

I got one for Christmas and I've played it (maybe) an hour or less. It's neat in certain areas, but I'll be happier when more games are released. I just have Super Mario Bros. WiiU and Nintendoland (which I hate).

Namely a lack of announced games for 2013 being a huge problem. Of the so far announced third party games for 2013 only a very small amount, less than that you can count on both hands, have a Wii U version. Hell some developers even dropped their Wii U version, like Metro: Last Light. Pretty much the only thing giving the Wii U's 2013 line up any hope at the moment is Nintendo's offerings. If most of the games shown at E3 this year don't have a Wii U version announced, the Wii U is in big trouble, especially if the next Xbox and PlayStation come out this year.

They need some real attention grabbing games and not just Mario games with new gimmicks.

I could get a WiiU, but then I'd have to invest in bifocals.
