Brian Pillman Press Conference www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mJ-6oIUiPQI just watched this video from the Spring of '96. This was the moment the fuse was lit. Two years later it would finally explode. On a side note, I wish Pillman hadn't been so banged up when he come into the WWE, if he had been 100% he could have been huge.

Actually, I think the Goldust videos from late 1995 really showed the WWE going to a darker, edgier place. Several pieces of business could be linked to the start of Attitude, but the real start of Attitude was when RAW had that makeover in March of 1997.

I have never seen this before, that was awesome! I wish the WWE had more moments like this today. They don't need the swearing and stuff necessarily, but more the feeling of "crap, this isn't supposed to happen" as Pillman (and that guy at the end) delivered here.

That's the way I've always had it mapped out, I just think that the video I posted, Mankind, Goldust, and the Austin 3:16 promo from King of The Ring are the sparks that started the fire that became the Attitude Era.

I hate when people say it ended at WM17.
Nothing about the product really changed until a few months into the brand split.

this is where the attitude era started. [ www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfzvWEJEM94yes the moments already listed are iconic and attitude-esque/edgy. But when I think of any era started, you got to think when the WHOLE product began to change. Everything listed before could have been edgy and could be considered as planting the seeds, but for the most part, there was still a lot of of the old era cartoon like elements still present.

IMO, it started when they changed the presentation back in 97. WWE 13's Attitude Era mode says that it started during Bret/Taker Summerslam 97, which I've never heard anyone else say.

That doesnt even make sense Which part? Bret/Taker being the begining of the Attitude Era. Taker for a while seemed to be stuck in the past when the WWF was moving fowatd

Post-Invasion until like December 2002 is another enigma of which I don't know what to call it. Yes, there were hints of the Attitude Era with Goldust but I always officially start the Attitude Era with Bret Hart/Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13 and have it conclude on July 2, 2001 when Booker T vs. Buff Bagwell on RAW ushered in the brief Invasion Era. Following Survivor Series 2001 and the end of the Invasion Era, it gets fuzzy but I tend to think of that period as the Post-War Era. The Post-War Era includes the Triple H Reign of Terror, the Smackdown Six, Brock Lesnar's entire first run, and the Goldberg and Scott Steiner experiments. WrestleMania 21 starts the Universe/PG Era with the next generation of John Cena winning the WWE Championship, Batista winning the World Championship, and Randy Orton shining as he challenged The Undertaker. I was praying June 27, 2011 started a new era with Punk's promo, but I still don't know if we can tell yet.

We're definitely getting a new era soon anyway, with Triple H rising to power.

Yeah, Yeah stuff happened quite a bit in 95/96, but the look, and feel of the shows were still pretty much new generation.
In my humble opinion. The Attitude Kicks off with a bang with the first 2 hour Raw in March of 97. It was such a radical change that it was almost like a whole new show. The opening with the brawl in the factory, the harder rock music. Then you have the other changes. The stage, ramp, and Titantron debuted. The ring ropes went to all red. And there was a HUGE amount of pyro added.
All the incidents mentioned before were the lead up to this. I mean you can't just change to something like Attitude overnight, and at the same time it can't just come from nowhere. So to me the first 2 hour Raw was a statement saying that change is definitely here.
