The Boston Globe's Greg Bedard suggests that Ryan Mallett could be targeted by the Browns via trade now that Mike Lombardi is Cleveland's VP of Player Personnel. New Browns VP of player personnel Michael Lombardi called the selection of Brandon Weeden at No. 22 overall last year a "panicked disaster." Lombardi also told a Cleveland radio station in September that Colt McCoy gives the team a better chance to win. Rotoworld I absolutely love Lombardi, even moreso now that he's just telling it like it is. Wonder if he knows something we don't about Mallett. He had first-round talent, but who knows if he's improved behind Brady like everyone hopes.

WCPO Cincinnati reports that Bengals RT Andre Smith was arrested Thursday for allegedly bringing a gun into an Atlanta airport.
Asked Friday whether there is any chance of the Chiefs retaining Matt Cassel for 2013, GM John Dorsey replied "Well, you never say never."

Apparently Andy Reid sold Chip Kelly on going to the Eagles by telling him how good the organization was and how well they treated him. This was after he originally turned down the NFL to stay at Oregon.
Class act by Reid to go out of his way to praise his former organization and help them get a new head coach IMO. And if Kelly works out, Eagles fans will be able to thank their old coach. And if it doesn't work out, they can blame him one last time for old times' sake. ;D

Rod Marinelli talking to Cowboys By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com
Former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is visiting with the Dallas Cowboys on Friday at Valley Ranch.
Marinelli's meeting with the Cowboys comes one day after new Bears coach Marc Trestman said Marinelli had decided to move on.
In Dallas, Marinelli would become the club's defensive line coach. He is being considered for the job because of his ties to new Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who runs a Tampa 2-4-3 defensive scheme.
Marinelli spent four seasons with the Bears, including the past three as defensive coordinator. He was previously the defensive line/assistant head coach.
The Bears' defense ranked fifth in total defense this season, 17th last season and No. 9 in 2010. The Bears led the NFL with 24 interceptions, including eight for touchdowns, this season.
Marinelli was the Lions' head coach from 2006-08. He went 10-38, including an 0-16 record in 2008.
Information from ESPNChicago.com's Michael C. Wright was used in this report.

Based on the opinions of knee surgeons, the Washington Times believes it would be "ambitious" to expect Robert Griffin (ACL, LCL surgery) to be healthy in time for Week 1 of 2013.

The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports the Jets are expected to hire Marty Mornhinweg as offensive coordinator.
Panthers promoted QBs coach Mike Shula to offensive coordinator.
Jets hired former Seahawks VP of Football Administration John Idzik as general manager.

I love how the Jets fire a cap guy in Mike Tannenbaum only to hire a cap guy in John Idzik.

I see discussions about diversity and the Rooney Rule have come back up in a big way again today, and it infuriates me the same as usual.

I think having the Rooney Rule is more racist than not having it. "Okay random Black guy, we have no plans in hiring you and this is just a waste of your time and ours - but we have to interview you, anyway. So.....yeah..." Stupid rule.

I think having the Rooney Rule is more racist than not having it. "Okay random Black guy, we have no plans in hiring you and this is just a waste of your time and ours - but we have to interview you, anyway. So.....yeah..." Stupid rule. My thoughts exactly. On ESPN there is an article about how the NFL is disappointed that there aren't any minority coaches now. The article also pointed out the injustice that Jim Caldwell didn't even get interviewed. Caldwell was a terrible coach and was only successful due to Peyton Manning. That's why he didn't get interviewed. And if it doesn't work out, they can blame him one last time for old times' sake. ;D While I am happy that Andy is gone (it was best for him and the Eagles) I will miss him a ton. The guy is one of the most classiest people in NFL history and will be welcomed back with open arms when he's put in the Eagles HoF.

You really don't like Bill Polian, do you? I'm just stating what was reported on the major sports sites. And to add on to that, in 2009, with the Colts going 14-0 and having already clinched the AFC's top seed, Polian made the call to pull their starters against the Jets in the 3rd quarter, and the Colts lost. He later stated that winning SB44 was more important than a perfect season. When the Colts lost the SB to the Saints, Polian blamed the Colts O-line and special teams for their loss, despite Peyton not getting sacked at all throughout the game.

I hated Reid because he was the Eagles' head coach, but I respect him a whole lot. I really hope he succeeds in KC.
