Do the tapes include some of the coliseum video exclusive stuff? For example, the coliseum video of WM4 includes a scene where heenan recieves a package (which turns out to be the dog training suit he wore in the six-man), but thats not on the Legacy vhs, is it on the 1997 video or the anthology set? No, not at all. The WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series Anthology sets don't have any of the Coliseum Video exclusive segments. In the Royal Rumble set, the 1989 and 1992 shows have their Coliseum exclusives, but they're the only ones that do.

A couple of years ago, I attempted to re-edit some of the old WrestleManias to more closely represent the original broadcasts. For example, I got my anthology version of WrestleMania 1 and edited in the old WWF signature ("the recognized symbol of excellence in sports entertainment") in place of the WWE Entertainment one, reinserted the original Phil Collins "Easy Lover" opening with Vince's voice-over, re-added "Eye of the Tiger" to Hogan and Mr. T's entrance, put back "Axel F" during the closing credits. It's not perfect, but, it's better than those lame-ass WWE edits. I didn't realize until reading this thread that JYD used the Queen song at WrestleMania 1.
The hardest one I did was on WrestleMania V where I tried to reconstruct the Piper's Pit segment with the missing footage. Unfortunately, the only source of the complete segment I had came from a dubbed version of the Coliseum Video release, so, the video quality is poor for the missing minutes. I also tried to track down the original theme to the "Morton Downey Jr. Show" and re-dub it in because it was edited out of the anthology release.
Another tricky edit to do was reinserting Salt 'n Pepa's performance from WrestleMania XI... the only source I could find of their performance was from FOX's airing of "WrestleMania The Special" in 1995, so, again, the video quality isn't the greatest, but, it makes it more authentic.
* * *
For the longest time, all I had for WrestleMania 2 and VII were the Coliseum Video releases and my God are they edited to hell. WrestleMania 2 cuts out Vince's opening ("Welcome to WrestleMania!"), Ray Charles' performance, all the entrances, most of the interviews, and then scrambles the remaining footage all around, so, you get Howard Finkel announcing that Paul Orndorff and Dun Muraco were both counted out just before the boxing match. Probably the worst editing job I've ever seen.
Then for WrestleMania VII, Willie Nelson is totally edited out, Henry Winkler, Donald Trump, and Lou Ferrigno are all edited out, the Steinbrenner debate is missing (naturally) and there's this weird edit in the Savage/Warrior match just before the ref bump where it cuts to footage from earlier in the match; you literally see Savage and Warrior running, then suddenly into a resthold, then suddenly Hebner's laying on the mat. What the hell?

What the hell? The "Recognized Leader..." opening started WM 2, not WM 1. 1 just starts with the opening video that mentions each match. 2 started with it, but on the Anthology DVD version, the music and voiceover are different. It is strange that the two VHS box sets didn't change any music at all after the original Coliseum Video releases did (WM 1, 10, and 11 on Coliseum replaced/removed all music from mainstream artists; 8 songs all together). The Piper's Pit segment on Coliseum wasn't totally unedited. The time between BL finishing his solo segment and Downey being introduced was shortened by a few seconds. It's the closest that segment is to being unedited on any of its home video releases, though. I did notice the thing you mentioned about Savage/Warrior, but it's just a video mistake as the audio was not affected during the few seconds the footage from eariler in the match was played.

The "Recognized Leader..." opening started WM 2, not WM 1. 1 just starts with the opening video that mentions each match. 2 started with it, but on the Anthology DVD version, the music and voiceover are different. Yes, I know this is true, but, I put the classic signature on there because it felt more time appropriate than the WWE Entertainment signature from 2005. Also, since it's the anthology version with all the WWF references edited out and the WWE bug in the bottom left of the screen, I used the modified signature from the Old School Raw where it says World Wrestling Federation Entertainment. So, it may be anachronistic, but, it's more accurate, ironically. Heh.
