Didn't they tell us that he had no cartilage left in that knee during the scene in the hospital? I haven't seen it since the theater, but I remember something like that. A brace wouldn't have been able to fix that (cartilage has poor blood supply and can't migrate like other types of cells, so several cartilage injuries don't tend to heal from injuries that severe). So I just assumed that Bane never removed it, since it was pretty obvious that Bane wasn't very bright at that point in the movie. wouldn't he have gotten an extra robot knee when he got that Batsuit from his hiding spot? That wouldn't have helped him get out of the prison though. The only way he could have been able to even attempt that climb without any cartilage in his knee would be if had that super robot brace, and since we didn't see Bane take it off and it coincides with how dumb Bane was at the end of the movie, it just fits that he didn't think of it.

I never took it as Bane being dumb. Simply way over confident, a trait he shows even when he has the upper hand in the early part of the movie. For all of the things he berates Batman for, he is just as bad in some respects.
But that's kinda the point, he is the bad guy.

That, and taking the knee brace off of a supposed crippled guy is like stealing Christopher Reeve's shoes so he won't run away.

That, and taking the knee brace off of a supposed crippled guy is like stealing Christopher Reeve's shoes so he won't run away. But he further crippled the guy himself, not so sure he would just be sympathetic for the pre-existing condition.

Something Bane wanted, so he could further crush him. If he could somehow fix his back enough to get around, he'd have a good knee, which would make him have hope he'd make the climb. Something Bane thought impossible for him to do.

Maybe he was faking it the whole time, and just used a robot thing for the hell of it?

There is a deleted scene that shows Batman eating "Mario" mushrooms just before the 2nd fight.

That, and taking the knee brace off of a supposed crippled guy is like stealing Christopher Reeve's shoes so he won't run away. There's also something to be said against a supposed tactical genius just plopping a highly trained assassin who supposedly killed the most highly trained assassin in the world into a prison with a doctor who could fix his problem that had been escaped by a little girl with no training. And it wouldn't be "grumblegrumblegrumbleHOPEgrumblegrumble" The movie just makes a lot more sense to me if Bane was the dumb henchmen and Talia was the real mastermind behind the actual good plans, who just had a huge Bond villainesque lapse in logic in not completing her ultimate goal when she had every opportunity to do so and crush Batman like she had wanted. She tells Bane to put Bruce somewhere where he can watch his city blow up, and Bane drops him in the pit without thinking of doing any of the dozen things that would have stopped him from escaping. She gives Bane a mask to help his immense pain after the prison riot, but he never thinks to protect it in a fist fight with a man with knife gloves. It all works a lot better if you don't buy Bane as a real genius, but as dumb muscle with a lot of latitude to work.

Countered the backbreaker into an inside cradle pin for the 3 count.

Something worth noting: the guy who punchd Bruce in the back to reset his spine was not actually a doctor, he was just acting on a doctor's instructions. The doctor was the guy in the next cell, who was portrayed as old and blind (it was not stated, but the coloration of his eyes and the fact that he never blinked show it). What's more, this doctor's competence was throw into question when it was mentioned that his attempts to mend Bane's wounds are what left him disfigured and in pain. So I suppose the idea is that Bane never figured this doctor was capable of helping Bruce Wayne get on the mend, let alone guide him to climb out of the prison.
