Well he was wrong.
He says WCW couldn't compete with the WWF. Not only did WCW compete with the WWF almost immediately with the launch of Nitro but as we all know WCW was kicking the WWF's ass for over a year at it's hottest point.

Well he was wrong. He says WCW couldn't compete with the WWF. Not only did WCW compete with the WWF almost immediately with the launch of Nitro but as we all know WCW was kicking the WWF's ass for over a year at it's hottest point. He main point was right though. Everyone was to concerned over themselves, and it killed the product. |

While he may not have been right about WCW, what he said sounds close to being accurate about TNA's attempt at going head to head on Mondays, even down to the keeping Sting and one or two other guys.

I think his opinion was shared by about 95% of the inside fans/journalists/people in wrestling. No one could have predicted WWF would sit back and watch WCW pass them by without a good fight. No one could have predicted Bischoff thinking out of the box and presenting a fresh product that struck a pop culture nerve. No one could have predicted the nWo.

In the long run he was right, WCW went out of business, while the WWF is still in business.

WCW is dead because they tried to compete with WWF and they failed big time. If he was wrong then WCW would still be around today on Monday Nights. |

Yeah, Heyman was right...eventually.
If WCW doesn't strike gold with the nWo, they lose the Monday Night War handily. Though having that loss in 96 or 97 could have resulted in the one-hour Saturday timeslot as opposed to outright killing the company because they wouldn't have an over-inflated budget as a result from their hot streak.

didn't WCW manage to match up fairly closely before the nWo? Not ahead, but not far behind either. Vince wouldn't have changed up then

Nobody was running away with the ratings battle. Nitro wins a week, then Raw wins a week. One thing that gets overlooked is how WCW would air a replay of the show, so even those who watched Raw instead of Nitro could still watch Nitro and not feel left out. (Shoot, I watched the replay before I'd head off to work.) Those replays would turn some "WWF Raw" fans into "WCW Nitro" fans. They would hype a match for next week, and you better believe they'd watch that match "live" if it was a big deal - even if it meant skipping Raw for a week. In due time, more and more of those replay watchers became exclusive Nitro viewers. |

Reason why we don't have WCW anymore is because those providing financial backup didn't want to have WCW. Easy as that. Everything else like poor management, big salaries comes as second. And poor storylines/booking/bad product (if there is such a thing as good product in wrestling) were never ever part of that equation, ever. |
