I've only seen the theatrical cut of this once, but loved it! I've seen Planet Terror and Deathproof since, but was wondering if there was any legal release of the theatrical cut where the movies are put together along with the trailer? I would love to find that if one is available, but from what I remember the film was a box office disappointment and it was decided to release the films only seperately.
As far as I know the closest thing is an Italian release that shows both the films with severe editing. Far from ideal even if I spoke Italian haha.

I bought the Blu Ray, but I also have the extended cuts of both films on DVD. I might hang on to the DVDs for now, but I will also keep the Blu-Ray.

bought both death proof and planet terror seperately on dvd ..... {Spoiler}DEATH PROOF is an acquired taste, talky and the "grindhouse" effects just run out at the end, and i would have actually preferred to have seen the shortened edit of it! PLANET TERROR however is a hoot, action aplenty, an old school 80's horror feel literally dripping from the screen, and the "grindhouse" effects on this feel like an actual CHARACTER in itself! and having a smoking hot rose mcgowen helps too

I watched it on opening weekend. It was the movie that made me want to make films.

Saw the midnight premiere for my birthday. Super scared on the drive home after Death Proof. What a great film.

I loved it I actually prefered "Death Proof" to "Planet Terror" I was in a class called Camp, Cult, Trash (awesome class, class name and plus now "trash" is officially on my transcript) that actually screened Death Proof in its entirety. The film professors and TAs all actually preferred that one to Planet Terror. It actually might be preferred by most film nerds like me. Still, I think I like Planet Terror better, but I go back and forth on that opinion.

Concept >>>>> Execution
Don't get me wrong. I liked Grindhouse a lot, but I thought it didn't live up to it's own potential, given the concept. The "trailers" were by far the best part of the experience.

I went and saw it opening weekend with some fellow movie junkie buddies. We all loved it, the movies, the trailers, the overall experience, and we were all a little divided as to which movie we preferred though felt both were at least solid. For me, it depends on my mood and on any given day I'll give you a different answer. I think I've watched Death Proof more though.
It's really a shame, because as fun as it was, what had us most excited was the potential for the future. We felt that there was still tons of room to improve it, and that it would likely only get better and better with each offering.
Then it bombed, and we all shed a tear for that lost hope.

Only movie I've ever walked out on. Only really wanted to see Death Proof, but I couldn't endure Planet Terror to get there.
Edit: Actually, come to think of it I also walked out on Fast and the Furious 4, or whatever that one was called. Hadn't seen any of the others so I had no idea what was going on, it was like 3 AM, I was seeing it for free, so I just decided whatever and went home about a half hour in.

Wish I would've gone to the theater to see these. I blind bought the Grindhouse Blu-ray and loved both. I like Planet Terror better, but still enjoyed Death Proof.

Saw it first at a midnight showing at the local theatre. At the end of "Planet Terror", when... {Spoiler}... the zombie jumps out at Rose McGowan while she's riding the horse down the beach, leading survivors to safety... ... the theatre's projector cut out. Took 5 minutes to start up again, and the credits were running. Had to buy it to see how it ended properly.

Without a doubt, my second favorite theater experience ever. Knowing that it is a double feature on Blu-Ray just brightened my day er... Night.

Death Proof is a horrible, horrible self indulgent mess of a film on it's own and just about barely works for the first half and all of the scenes where nobody talks for any decent length of time in the second half. The second half of the film has to be the most embarrassing thing Tarantino ever put his name to with such horrible f***ing unlikable characters talking some of the most inane, annoying, godless dialogue imaginable. It works in Grindhouse because there's less of it. Thinking about that full length version again is giving me some sort of a 'Nam freak out.

Best thing to come out of those trailers: Hobo with a Shotgun. Worst thing to come out of those trailers: Machete

Best thing to come out of those trailers: Hobo with a Shotgun. Worst thing to come out of those trailers: Machete I liked Machete, but Hobo is more enjoyable. Hobo has better music for a start. Any film that brings back Run With Us gets a free pass.

While not to the same extent I think Death Proof got bogged-down in QT's self-indulgence like Basterds did.

I rarely go to the theater to watch a movie. They just don't interest me, but I only saw about a 15 second piece of the commercial and thought "That looks like Kurt Russell in a 70s setting-I wanna see this"
Of course it wasn't set in the 70s, (I don't think)but they were ambiguous about the time and I like that.
Anyway-it was really great seeing it in a theater, but I knew they were in trouble when they had hand written notes on the walls explaining what "Grindhouse" meant
And I cannot believe people complained about it being so long-especially with ticket prices as high as they are anymore-that and movies have gotten longer recently too-not the length of two films, but you get the point.
