I dont know about this film.
It's got some of the new Superman stuff in it, but in the end, it's still Superman.
Is there anyone who doesnt know that story? Is there anyone who isnt going to criticise and attack the changes made to the story they know, when they aren't comic book fans (and likely, nay, especially, if they are)?
I think the film is beginning to look pretty good, but I dont think it's going to perform at the level DC, or more WB, seem to hope/want it to.
But I may be wrong. I didnt think Nolan's third would hit the Billion, and it did, by quite a bit and this film has the added bonus of being a 3D release as well, which brings in the extra cash.
Still think running a JLA film against Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7 is a mistake, but what do I know?

I think it'll do fine. Green Lantern was a huge misfire from casting onward and it looks like they're playing it much safer this time.
Superman die-hard fans will flock to it. Nolan's fanbase will pay to see it. Even Zack Snyder can pull a decent Box Office receipt...most of the time. And in the post-Avengers, post-DKR landscape, the casual market is primed for it.
I'm sick of traditional superhero origin stories. If we see one more batman origin story it'll be too soon, but considering it's been 30+ years since the last full-on Superman origin movie I guess they're about due for another - if only for those born in the 90's and beyond who never really got one for their gen.

Aww, I remember the last time I really hoped a Superman movie would do well, The Summer America Turned Heel.

Nolan's fanbase will pay to see it. Me wanting to see this verifies that. That, and I've never seen a Superman movie in my life.

And All Star Superman and Superman vs. The Elite for that matter. Anyway, yeah. I still really have my doubts about Man of Steel, but I'm certainly going to see it. Justice League... I pretty much have no confidence in DC doing anything but making a subpar Avengers cash-in with that, but if it gets made I'll at least give it a shot.

I kind of think that Superman is one of the more dull characters, but Man of Steel looks visually interesting I suppose. I just don't know if I can handle anymore "origin" stories when (especially for Superman) we had a whole freaking show that covered it.

I think WB should really just do a Batman/Superman movie like they once intended. It would make money and be good enough competition for Avengers 2 (Batman alone was decent competition for them). , and it would test the waters if they can pull off a crossover flick at all before diving headfirst into the Justice League.

I read a blog recently that made a striking case that maybe, instead of banking on Superman, DC/WB should be banking on The Flash. The author compared The Flash to Iron Man; certainly a recognized character, but nowhere near as iconic as others like Batman or Spider-Man. Yet it was the first Iron Man film that very much made The Avengers posible; thanks to a great script, director, and superb casting Iron Man breathed new life into the character and paved the way for all the films that followed in building up to The Avengers-if Iron Man had failed, Marvel most likely would have scrapped the whole thing. The author argued that The Flash is a character that could have the same effect for DC and the Justice League overall. It was actually a pretty striking point.

I can't disagree with that. Not a bad idea. I'd love to see a (good) Flash movie. He'd basically be the "anti-Hulk."
Of course, there already was that Green Lantern movie...
Still, there are times that I can't help but marvel at how much Iron Man's stock has risen over the course of four years. Just five years ago, next to no one outside of comics fans knew a thing about him. Now he's practically household name.

By the same token though if they can't get a good movie out of one of their A-listers in Supes, what real chance do any of the lower tier characters have? Not to mention there was Green Lantern which could have filled that role... and well... yeah. Though I didn't mind the casting of Reynolds as Hal... my main issue was the fact that they decided they needed to shove EVERYTHING into one movie...

Would be nice if we could get a superhero series that just leaps into the action, with maybe a one sentence explanation of backstory.
Also, I get the feeling people think Superman is dull because movies have never shown anything close to his full potential.

Hell I would have done it with Superman... I think just about everyone knows his origin already.
Also I would hope that the next time they make a Batman series they refrain from retelling maybe showing it in a montage during the opening credits like how the Incredible Hulk movie did it.

I'd say Superman 78 gave us the most multifaceted look at him as a character on the big screen. Other than that, barring the comics, Superman TAS pulled it off.

they should lie and say something like "Man of Steel's Box Office to Determine if There Will Ever Be Another Batman Movie"
people will flock to the theaters

Though I didn't mind the casting of Reynolds as Hal... my main issue was the fact that they decided they needed to shove EVERYTHING into one movie... Very true. But like in the blog, Iron Man had EVERYTHING just right-great script, great director, great casting, etc. Green Lantern had potential, but the script and directing really weren't up to snuff-and sorry, but Ryan Reynolds was not the best choice. I believe what the blog author was arguing was that, if they could get a good film out of one of the B listers like The Flash, it might help them to get a genuinely good movie out of one of the A listers-building up hype and enthusiasm so the chances of getting the right director, script, cast, etc. would be better. Part of what intruiges me about what I have seen so far from the trailers is that it looks like maybe they are actually going to take a different approach to Superman, something other than the "big boy scout" image associated with the character. It looks as if they are going to portray Clark Kent as a confused teenager who knows he doesn't fit in for some reason, and struggles to find his place in the world-and who is more than a little hesitant to embrace the truth about himself and take his destined place in the world. And what's more, the world does not embrace him with awe-but instead they are frightened of him and he has to win them over by example. Its a deeper, more dramatic kind of Superman.

They should have handed the entire JLA concept to Nolan, and contracted him to direct or produce a movie each for Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Aquaman. Then add his version of Superman and Bale as Batman into a unified film that he himself would produce or direct.
