I mean, if they're actually concerned about used games, maybe they should try to find a way to make video games at little cheaper than $50-$60/game.

Require an internet connection to even play?
If your internet goes down, you're f***ed. There's no way that wouldn't bite them in the ass.

Not that you had to have a consistent stream. Still bullocks tho, especially with those without an internet connection. This may be newZ, but I will always comment that doing this will lose me as a customer.

Nope, the first line in the Edge article "Microsoft’s next console will require an Internet connection in order to function, ruling out a second-hand game market for the platform."

They make too much money from DLC and season/online passes to stop pre-owned games.

I've already made the decision to be PC only gaming. I've log a lot of hours on my PC while my XBox 360 was collecting dust. Stuff like this further confirms to me that I made the right call.

x-surface.tumblr.com/I believe everyone should read this before y'all read about the next-gen console rumors. The guy shows how easy it is to make stuff up and have it show up on various websites as the LATEST GAMING NEWS.

I basically only buy used games because I'm a "buy game only if it's costing around 10 dollars" type of guy. If it stays this expensive, yeah, I'm just gonna upgrade my pc for this next gen. All hail steam. Spoiler warning. {Spoiler}Steam doesn't allow used games either.

Keep in mind most games these days are designed to be played multiplayer whether it helps the game as a whole or not. I can foresee every game of the next gen to have multiplayer components (EA is already on board) with single players adventures tacked on. It makes me wonder why Microsoft never tried to make a serious console MMO for the Xbox in its 5+ year lifespan. It's not like MS didn't already have experience in publishing a MMO (Asheron's Call).

I bought Scribblenauts Unlimited for 30 bucks last week, it costs 70 retail first hand.

It should be.. that's the one that tried to pass it off as news to one site and got turned down due to lack of proof, then he went off insulting the guy who turned him down not that it has any bearing on this news (real or not) but that article is a bit iffy itself

This is something that left me scratching my head when I posted the X-Surface thing last time. I don't get how the guy being a dick to the CVG guy (and apparently the guy's own screens were truncated to leave out parts where he didn't look so good himself) invalidates what happened elsewhere. Misses the point that game journos will just publish any rumor to get hits even if it's completely made up by some guy.

I know for example that the majority of the time Kotaku will state in the title of a rumor article that it is a rumor.

It doesn't excuse it from being yellow journalism, though, if not outright made up. I don't know if being held to the same lofty standards as wrestling dirt sheets bothers them that much, but it really bothers me. It's why I refuse to go to sites like Kotaku. Well, besides many of the Kotaku users and writers being douchebags. Hideki Kamiya's ownage of them was awesome.
And as this thread has shown, people will believe rumors and treat them like truth even with a complete lack of veracity.

So what's the over/under on the first hack of the system to allow it to play used games? 36 hours? Under - 19 hours

I don't care about being able to play used games, it's just that I really can't picture myself spending more than 10-20 dollars per game as a rule rather than an exception.

Require an internet connection to even play? If your internet goes down, you're f***ed. There's no way that wouldn't bite them in the ass. But hey, it's probably safe. It's not like their current console is known for it's self-destructing bugs or anyth... oh, right. x-surface.tumblr.com/I believe everyone should read this before y'all read about the next-gen console rumors. The guy shows how easy it is to make stuff up and have it show up on various websites as the LATEST GAMING NEWS. He's also an asshole who insults the journalists who do check their facts for not blindly believing him. He's no more trustworthy than the websites who bought his lie. With that said, until this is reported by Kotaku, Gamasutra or some other somewhat reliable gaming info source, as others have said, best to take it with a grain of salt. Well, it's hard to take someone seriously when he blames sites for their lack of professionalism while also going ballistic when one doesn't and does the exact thing he wanted them to. When you see how he acts himself, you've got to wonder how much of his version of the story is to be believed. And of course, there's the fact that just because some sites bought one lie doesn't mean all of them are rotten to the core (especially when some of the sites he mentioned aren't gaming sites but rather generalist trend sites. Basically, his point makes as much sense as saying all news outlets are lying because the Sun, the Daily Mail, the New York Post and Fox News exist.
