By the way, did anybody else see this: Ryder back to Montreal for Erik Cole? Bit of a random trade with a slight advantage for the Habs. Although, didn't Ryder have a real bad run with Montreal the first time around? A bit more than a slight advantage - least salary cap wise. With Cole gone, Gomez gone, Kaberle bought out this summer and if Ryder doesn't stay...we have about 20 million freed up to spend. The idea is that Bergevin is going to go after some big free agents. I'm still in shock about this. But Cole was apparently just not happy this season. Some of it was from the lockout, the rest - who knows? He claims he had no beef with anyone in the club and all reports seem to say that the place is one big happy family now so it's kind of odd. I had heard he may get shipped but I never thought it would be for Ryder (who many not be a bad pick up). Now all we need is Saku back.

Good riddance Cole might be my least favorite player in the NHL. I hope he stays to his word and retires next season to make a statement against the CBA. Because the league is going to miss Erik Cole

Breaking News: Avs Lost Hell of a game, though. They came back and almost won it, they just couldn't seal the deal. How are the Flames this year? It seems like they always give us trouble, so I don't know if Avs fans should expect more of the same or not.

The Flames seem to win only against their NW division opponents the past few years but lose to every other team. If they don't win so many games against their division they would be a lottery pick team the past three years

Bruins won 4-1 last night. The Isles actually were much more competitve than the score indicates.
Man, that team should be better than the are by now...

I feel really bad for John Tavares. it's like the Islanders' whole strategy was Step 1: Draft Tavares, Step 2: ? and Step 3: profit. the Penguins may have pulled the best player in the game out of a drum, but at least they had the good sense to build a competitive team around him.

Big road win for Montreal in Toronto, will the home team win a game in this series any time soon?

OK, Habs fans, after all the slings and arrows he put up with for a while, I think we can finally say Carey Price is the man in net, clear-cut, going forward, no questions asked.
He won me over the last few years- 2011 he was ridiculous, last year's dead last season was not Price's fault (look at the stats!), and this year, he's Therrien's version of 2002 Jose Theodore- with a better overall team!

Collated from Bob McKenzie's Twitter...
The Calgary Flames have filed an offer sheet on Ryan O'Reilly. 2 years, $5m AAV. $1m salary this year and $2.5m signing bonus, $6.5m salary next year. Colorado has seven days to match the offer or accept compensation of Calgary's first round pick and Calgary's third round pick. If Colorado matches the offer, the Avalanche cannot trade O'Reilly for one calendar year from the day it matches the offer. Structure of deal designed to deter Colorado. That includes getting a $2.5M signing bonus now and a really low salary ($1M) rest of season.

As much of a big holy overpayment that is, Calgary is finally doing something they should of done throughout Jarome Iginlas entire career but get a #1 centerman. Still I think Calgary should go full rebuild because they are a thousand times better than Edmonton in acquiring free agent 3rd/4th line depth forwards and defenceman depth guys. So they would have a shorter rebuild. Better than Edmontons process of let's make a awesome top 6 and that's it route.

Funny that tonight, it's the Avalanche vs. the Flames. Wonder if there'll be "MATCH THE SHEET" chants from the Avs fans...

Why would you risk giving up a 1st and a 3rd plus all that salary for a decent #1 center? Don't you think keeping your 1st and 3rd would be kind of important for a team like Calgary? ...Or is Jay Feaster that big of a prude that he knows that Ryan O'Reilly will help them win a few games but he knows they'll end up in the no man's land of 10-12 in the West; therefore going through another season refusing to accept that the core of the Flames has expired and that a rebuild is in order?

Since 1997, there have been 12 offer sheets signed. Of the previous eleven, only two (Chris Gratton from the Lightning to the Flyers in 1997) and Dustin Penner (from the Ducks to the Oilers in 2007) have been accepted. Since Penner, offers for David Backes, Steve Bernier, Niklas Hjalmersson and Shea Weber have all been matched.

Oh god I forgot how a 1st round pick works. Normally I would say burn Calgary burn but Colorado is a division rival with tons of great young talent and they are at the risk of being a lottery team this year as well with Calgary. I don't want to see Colorado have two 1st round picks in the 1st round plus I'm sure they are going to do everything to acquire hometown boy Seth Jones in which the Oilers desperately need that or a big centre or power forward in the top 6. Hey triplethreatmark how would you feel for a Ryan Whitney for Penner trade? LA needs defence and Oilers need a big power forward or centre on the team and Penner was good for Edmonton despite his big contract and had the stigma of Kevin Lowe's replacement of Ryan Smyth

Double post but apparently Rick DiPietro had suicidal thoughts after getting demoted to the AHL. He did say later on he was joking about it which is something you don't joke about it. However I do believe he may had some of those thoughts and he was retracting his steps and said he was joking hoping it would make things better. Basically the mindset of I didn't say those things my Twitter was hacked excuse. Point is I hope he gets some help I just feel bad for him for I believe their may be a grain of truth in those comments or really meant it. www.torontosun.com/2013/02/28/rick-dipietro-just-kidding-about-suicide-comments
