People are seriously giving the average fan way too much credit as to how they would respond to a gay wrestler. Yeah. Just because the people on this board wouldn't have a problem with a gay character doesn't mean the live audience (especially in certain parts of the country) would receive it all that well. Not to mention the inevitable crapstorm once they get an audience that does exactly that. Although, the original point is fairly valid. Being generic big guy with power moves won't exactly get him far or make him memorable. Kane and Taker are memorable for their gimmicks, Lesnar's memorable for his legit wrestling acumen, and Show and Andre are memorable for being literal giants. RyBack needs something he can make his own; and no, crushing jobbers ain't it.

no, Ryback owns. Ryback vs mark henry will own. We dont need Gayback vs Sexual Chocolate No. Just no. It's bad enough that I can't turn around without constantly hearing about gays these days. The last thing I want is a "seriouz" gay wrestler on my TV. And here we have the reason that we'll probably never get a proper LGBT angle in wrestling, Orlando Jordan's attempts aside. Because the wrestling fandom is full of... Y'know, as angry as stuff like this gets me, it's genuinely not worth saying what I think of these posts. Just... Wow.

Ever. 2) You'd hear less about them if they were treated equally 3) I don't care what's on your TV, but I'd like to see an openly gay wrestler on MY TV. If you don't like it, I'm pretty sure there's a black rectangular thing that has buttons on it. If you push the one of the arrows, you *might* be able to change the channel.

No one in the arena gives a shit that Ryback is boring as sin, given that he's over as hell most places he goes and has a killer chant.
They don't need to change anything about Ryback at all.

It would just give WWE even less public credibility. Having a straight man play a confident gay powerhouse would intrigue people until they figured out the guy wasn't actually homosexual. Maybe someday if a gay talent pitches it being a part of his character, and it is written well, it could be used accordingly and it would be appreciated by many. But a random Goldbergesque meat-head playing it up for publicity... yeah, more negative light on the WWE. Probably some pretty harsh negativity, too.
I would find it horribly lame if Ryback, the character, randomly became homosexual. Much head shaking.

On 3, as stated the sexual preference of wrestlers is rarely if ever brought up... so I don't see how a serious openly gay gimmick would work. I mean I guess if anyone listed their preference on a social media site or something... but I can't really think of many scenarios on screen where it would be brought up without it sounding shoe-horned as all hell. Edit: Also I suppose I should weigh in on the actual topic too... I agree with what seems to be the general consesus being Ryback is fine and doesn't need to change his gimmick, and even if he did unless Ryan Reeves is gay this would be a terrible move.

Ehhh as far as it actually working, that's tricky. I'd be cool with a wrestler being openly gay, but I think it could get stupid quickly if they tried to make that a major focus on his/her character. Nobody else seemingly announces their heterosexuality, though, I guess an argument could be made that with certain characters (coughAJcough) jumping into every dude's pants then they are kinda asserting their sexual orientation. As it is, though, I just don't think it needs to be "This wrestler is gay! He/she's GAY!" I'd be much happier with a wrestler doing their own gimmicks and characters and whatnot, but in their personal life, being openly gay. Doing It Gets Better videos or otherwise just being their normal selves and not hiding.

To know someone is gay wouldn't they need to have another character who'd abuse them to that end? Else how would we know?

He could just slip it casually into his promos. "FEED ME MORE gay sex with gay men because I'm totally gay. Gay." Completely natural. Josh:"So Ryback what are your feeling heading into this big matchup against the showoff Dolph Ziggler" Ryback:"I like having intercourse with males. FEED ME DOLPH" Josh:"Thanks for the time Ryback, lets toss it back to you Cole" I can't stop laughing. Good job.

I never thought a gay bad ass would work until I saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. But that had the talents of Shane Black/Val Kilmer behind it. I don't think Ryback could pull it off (unless he actually is gay).

So why does the gay guy have to "shows us his partner, tells us he's in love and happy"? That's a terrible idea. If you want a gay wrestler to appeal to gay viewers who'll enjoy watching fit, oiled-up young men grappling in their underwear, you'd better at least make the character single. Like how they didn't acknowledge John Cena's marriage onscreen until he got divorced.

A wrestler who was 'out' but it played no role in his character would be a positive step forward. Like how everyone knows Patterson is gay and have for years but it's never been used to promote his character on television.
