lars ulrich(yes, I'm bringing him up). There's a laundry list we've all gone over, but I'm going to go with the whole napster thing. He led the charge against them. but then years later tries to cover his own ass. He casually laughs as he says he doesn't care if people download his music as long as they buy albums and merch. The fact that he had a big hand in destroying a website(the new napster doesn't count) and then acts as he if he had nothing to do with it shows how much of a douchebag he is. It's like somebody beating the crap out of you, and acting as if it was no big deal.

I don't see a problem with it.

well I learned that we all have very contrasting opinions of what constitutes a person as a scum bag. Yeah, it's kind of jarring to go from indisputable scumbags like Saville and Michael Vick, to some guy who didn't like season 3 of My Little Pony. Only on the FAN.

Didn't Michael Vick repent for the dog-fighting thing? Or is something else on his rap-sheet I haven't been privy to yet?

Piracy is hardly a victimless crime, it robs not only the production companies but the artists as well. It also affects the economy. We are talking about a luxury item, one can pay for it or easily do without. If Lars had a hand in bringing down napster then good on him. Now if he's trying to spin his involvement then that is lame, not scummy by any means, but I'd go so far as douchey. Don't be a politician, stick to your guns.

Just out of curiousity, but for the folks that said Kanye West, what are you basing that from? The Taylor Swift thing seemed more like him just being drunk off his ass.

Following the people mentioned before:
Jimmy Seville Jeffrey Jones Gary Glitter
If you're busted with that stuff you are firmly in scumbag territory.
Chris Brown Big man to beat on your girlfriend. Bigger dick to act like you're the victim because the media calls you on your s***.
Jenny McCarthy James Cameron
I list them together because their actions may have in some cases indirectly harmed people.
Chevy Chase (for all he did on SNL and Community).
I think he's the borderline. He could be a scumbag but he's for certain a huge dick.
I wouldn't classify Kanye West. He's an egomaniac, but the guy is talented enough to back his s*** up.

He feels Lars should own up to the part he played.

All the various physically and sexually abusive bastards and hags.
Kirk Cameron for endlessly harrassing and getting people fired for having different beliefs than him.
Jeremy Piven for the Entourage story. Sleeping with extras, then blackballing them.

Not a celebrity per say, but Chuck Traynor (husband of Linda Lovelace) has to be one the of the biggest pieces of s*** I've ever read about. I don't know how legit Lovelace's accusations about the porn industry as a whole were, but Traynor himself even when defending his behavior comes across like an abusive, violent, sociopath.
Rick James was scum too. Yeah Dave Chappelle did some funny impressions with him; read the guy's wiki and say he was just a harmless drug loving 80s singer.
If even half the accusations about Kevin Clash are true, he's a bit scummy too.

One could say that the part of what Lars did, that was bad, was fear mongering. Sure it might impact Metallica more than say the Decemberists, as what was the comparative take in the percentage of retail sales for their albums when released on a larger label? So you can, theoretically, irrational overreaction by Lars as well. Who came off as such a level headed dude (especially in Some Kind of Monster). But, really, if we are going to cite someone as a scumbag pretty much the entirety of the RIAA's legal team, especially with their general self-righteous press releases. Compared to them Lars is a kitten. A strange, little kitten. And all of that, despite the general distaste of how this stuff is handled, it is nothing compared to real scumbags. Because really it is just them attempting to keep their industry in a world that is progressing faster than their grasp of it can adjust. Hell even Chris Brown isn't in the same league of other celebs. Nothing compared to Polanski, Sandusky, Joe Paterno (if he knew), Gary Glitter, Saville, Robert Blake, and Phil Spector. And those are just who I can thing of. I cannot equate an overzealous and/or misguided attempt at preserving one's livelihood is equitable to murder or sexual assault. Or if you cover up a systematic series of abuses for some reward/benefit that you can justify as greater than the impact to the human life involved. {Spoiler}{Also here is an aside, in Spoilers.} I don't support piracy, but food for thought. Given that people are complaining about piracy, here is something to ponder, as it references a study conducted by the Swiss government on the issue. hothardware.com/News/Swiss-Government-Opts-to-Keep-Piracy-Legal-for-Personal-Use/So is the RIAA and others like them misrepresenting facts? Or do they not genuinely know and/or accept this kind of information?\ If the former is true, then it is not that bad. If the latter, then they start to veer into detestable.

He feels Lars should own up to the part he played. Yeah, pretty much. I got my opinions on file sharing, but the real kicker about lars is his double faced attitude and how he throws others under the bus. He did a 360 and said he had no problem with file sharing after helping to take down napster. The way he brushes off the napster thing as if it was no big deal is total douchebaggery. He did a similar thing when he said "metal is dead" during the release of load. Then around the time of st. anger he gloated about that he decides when heavy music should be around(so he could cash in on new fans).

Axl Rose Dave Mustaine Chris Brown Roman Polanski Jay Leno Kirk Cameron Andy Dick I know Kirk Cameron is overt in his religious beliefs, but I wouldn't really classify him as a scumbag at all, especially not in the same vein as Chris Brown, Roman Polanski, and any other real scumbags out there. Anyone that promotes their religion in a mean-spirited, "if you don't repent, you will be left behind!" type of attitude is a colossal scumbag in my opinion. I'd like to add: Lindsay Lohan Justin Beiber Donald Trump

I always find it strange when Chris Brown is mentioned in these sorts of lists and Charlie Sheen is not, considering the type of shit he's got in his closet. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Chris Brown. I don't even like Chris Brown. But if you're going to mention one unrepentant domestic abuser, you might wanna also mention the unrepentant serial domestic abuser/drug abuser who, in some sick irony, is actually something of a cult icon these days. Charlie Sheen's life and career are a like a really, really bad car accident: It's impossible not to rubberneck. I don't consider him a role model so I have no expectations of him to be shattered, etc.

To be a scumbag to me means going beyond just talking to people and into conning, taking advantage of, or intentionally hurting others without remorse. Cameron went a bit far when he was younger and just converted, but aside from getting one actress fired, an act that he seems to admit he was wrong on, he hasn't really done anything to rise to scumbag level since then.

Comparing a Christian who is strong in his beliefs to murderers, child molesters, and women beaters is just pathetic. if he did something in the past that got someone fired, and is sorry for it, then that in no way clarifies him as a scumbag.
