Admittedly I never followed XPW when it was around but I do have some DVD's of events they ran and honestly I don't get the negative write ups they get from everyone.
Apart from Rob Black selling porn that was "too extreme" was XPW really that bad? New Jack and Vic Grimes had some great matches, Shane Douglas was still a guy who could work in XPW. All the random appearances from ex ECW guys was interesting and fun. The matches all were generally pretty good and they even made a few of their own stars.
I don't think they're as good as ECW but I don't get the hate. Was XPW really bad enough to warrant the amount of hate it gets?

Yes it was. The hardcore matches happened mainly because a good portion of the wrestlers were horrible like Pogo the Clown and Tool. Also it gets a lot of hate because Rob Black is a sleazy man if there was one

Yep it was indeed that bad as the promotion was pretty much just a 10th rate rip off of ECW.
Not to mention its alleged that Rob Black hired two hitman to kill a wrestler who banged his wife.

Yes. XPW was awful.

I have never seen a match, but I have seen compilation videos on YouTube and from I saw, it was pretty bad. I cringed at the sight of someone actually lit on fire from a flaming table. Also, I think I came across a video once that had a badly done home invasion segment and it looked like someone was about to rape a woman.

There is some good matches. Mostly tag matches with Mexico's Most Wanted. Or some of the Alter Boy Luke matches.

It wasn't wrestling. It was people just flying through tables and hitting each other with glass.
While I admit, the original ECW did have a lot of so-called garbage wrestling, you did get a lot of great matches with talented workers from guys like Benoit,GUerrero,RVD, etc.

The hardcore matches were terrible unless the Messiah or Angel were part of them.
They had some decent tag teams and Xaos was ok. Angel was my favorite because, ballsy gimmick aside, he worked his ass off and could fly and do hardcore wrestling. Messiah was a legitimately good wrestler and, even after losing his thumb, he could go. You had some decent matches from guys like Chris Candido and Chris Hammerick but, clearly, XPW was a promotion where veterans were just passing through until something better came along or for younger talent who couldn't fit in anywhere else.
Most of it, however, was just terrible especially considering what it was ripping off.

XPW did feature some genuinely talented wrestlers, most of whom were pre-established indy stars looking for an extra paycheck and exposure or refugees from the simultaneous deaths of ECW and WCW who were just trying to stay on TV. Other than that they had a lot of utterly lame an untalented clowns (literally) and tried to use ridiculous hardcore gimmick matches to cover it. But while ECW did a good job of this, XPW was terrible at it. Added to this, the production values were rock bottom-the lighting, camera picture quality, sound, ring and sets were all of the cheapest grade imaginable. And honestly it felt to me like Rob Black really did view wrestling fans as a bunch of drooling Neanderthals by putting out such a garbage product-he figured they would watch anything as long as there was blood. RIP XPW and good riddance.

I actually followed XPW online as it was alive and still running shows, I can safely say yes it was that bad. They had 2 good wrestlers that were XPW originals and one of them left XPW. I only watched it because it was one of the only alternatives after WCW and ecw went out of business. The girls were hot, but it kinda lost the aura knowing they left nothing to the imagination since they were port stars to the most hardcover degree. One positive I can say about XPW is that it had some funny moments, the best being that Juvi promo.

One of those things I guess, but we all watched it and at the time wasn't switching off. It's probably dog shit to watch back now, of which I have no urge.

I remember stumbling on tapes at Sam Goody way back in the day. The internet wasn't as huge as it is now, so any wrestling I could see I was down for. I wanted so bad to like it. "Oh it looks like ECW!" I would tell myself. Then I would watch and be disappointed. And I tried to enjoy it, maybe 5 times. Just couldn't get past the snuff film quality of it all. That being said, there were a few good workers that came in and out and I remember a handful of decent matches. I also remember Chris Hamrick taking that suplex/piledriver deal off the top rope. That was rough.

It seemed like that, if it could go wrong in a death match, it went wrong in XPW:
I remember a thumbtack match where the wrestlers had so many thumbtacks on the bottom of their boots from moving around in them that they started to slide around. I was surprised no one broke their neck in the match.
Then Supreme getting put through a KEROSENE lit fire on a table and the ring crew having problems getting him put out, to the point that the crowd was getting sick smelling burnt human flesh. Angel fell Face First during a table spot and cried (and, I wasn't joking, I liked the guy and he was tough, Un-PC homosexual gimmick or not, but that looked absolutely brutal) and just people got hurt in ways that the ECW guys didn't.

I actually loved XPW for how utterly shit it was. I did like The Messiah and Angel though, as well as Pogo in a way because I'm interested in serial killers so as tasteless as a Gacy gimmick is it was interesting to me.

My favorite Sandman XPW moment was when he was feuding with Pogo and, drunkenly told his son Tyler that "Daddy's sorry but that big clown kicked my ass," or something like that. It's Sandman so it was a lot funnier than it was sad sounding.

Remember the time that XPW crashed an ECW PPV and the ECW guys whipped their asses. Good times.
Yes, XPW was a joke. Straight up terrible.

Best way to describe XPW is having a rusty coat hanger covered in battery acid shoved up your anus. They tried to be ECW without understanding what made ECW "ECW".

Is your entire role on this board just to be as contrary as you can? It's pretty transparent at this point. Yes. XPW was awful. "YOU HAVE DIFFERING OPINIONS TO ME! I DONT LIKE YOU!" I don't have a "role" on this board.
