Donald Glover as a gay black Spider-Man in the next reboot. He could pull it off. Gay Black Mentally Handicapped Midget Spider-Man in a low cut top. All the Oscars. Played by Tugg Speedman?

Judging by Andrew Garfield's performance in the film, I thought Spider-Man WAS gay Seriously? because the chemistry between Andrew and Emma was off the chart. They obviously wanted to rip each others clothes off. And from the sounds of things, they did.

Why can't Spider-man be gay? Because he's not gay.

Why can't Spider-man be gay? Because he's not gay. Says who? No one would take it seriously and readers would inevitably wait for the status quo to return to normal, like Captain America's death or Brother Voodoo becoming sorcerer supreme. Change for changes sake is poor writing/story telling not to mention the 60 years of comic book history showing a string of women's Spidey's taken to bed (Could do Bi but gay nope). Nothing worse than breaking comic book continuity in the eyes of the fans. Now an alternative universe Spidey or clone sure that could work. But if we need an awesome gay superhero Midnighter is the way to go.

Compromise; Peter Parker is not gay, Ben Reilly is.
Kaine can be bicurious, but its negotiable.

Let's just start him off as bisexual and see where that goes.

I somehow read the thread title as "Why can't Garfield be gay?"
...As in, "Garfield the cat."
I was very confused.

Because gay isn't a lifestyle choice, and if he were gay, he'd be gay. But he's hetero.

Because gay isn't a lifestyle choice, and if he were gay, he'd be gay. But he's hetero. he traded his marriage to a smoking hot redhead model to the devil to keep a nearly dead woman alive, not so sure about the straightness.

I want to see a gay Spider-Man just so we can see a gay Peter Parker interact with J. Jonah Jameson, who says some stuff that isn't completely homophobic but still kinda inappropriate for a boss to say to a gay employee. Donald Glover as a gay black Spider-Man in the next reboot. He could pull it off. I say we try it with Danny Glover first. "I'm too gay for this shit!"

Why can't Spider-man be gay? Because he's not gay. Bingo. Like someone else said, if you want a badass gay superhero then make a Midnighter movie. Hell, Marvel's already putting out an Ant-Man movie. I don't see why a Midnighter movie can't be done as well. Probably get a lot more interest because he actually is a gay superhero.

But if we need an awesome gay superhero Midnighter is the way to go. It's not all about the readers though. The films were a success because average people enjoyed them. There are people like myself who have never read a Spider-Man comic in their life and aren't bothered by continuity.

Can't say i'm with this. If you want a gay character use a character who's always been gay. This isn't like changing his costume or even the race or gender of characters. That is another can of worms.
They do retcon characters but something like this should be done in the comics to get people to warm up to the thought of it.
People damn near lost it when spiderman became non-white
Even if they hinted at a suggested changing of a gay character into a straight character that would get vetoed with the quickness.
