EDIT: I'm not offended at any wrestling parody. The jokes don't upset me because they insult wrestling. They upset me because they're not good. The point I'm trying to get across is that the execution was horrible as all the new Simpsons episodes have been. So there was a wrestling-based Simpsons episode sometime in 2013. First off, The Simpsons has been crap since 2004-2006, and I'm being very lenient when I use that time frame, but that's worthy of it's own thread. Anyways, Homer buys a storage unit(parody of Storage Wars) and finds a bunch of wigs and boas, finding out they were Grandpa's. They think he's gay, so they try to embrace it(includes dumb blind date joke with Smithers), and it's revealed that he was actually a pro-wrestler back in the day, which happened to be a Gorgeous George parody. Anyways, Grandpa explains how he got heat as a heel(they used the term) by cheating against babyfaces(also used it). Mr. Burns, and old school fan convinces Grandpa to wrestle again as a heel to entertain him. The episode is absolute shit because it's on the fence on whether pro-wrestling is fake or real, and there is no mention of modern wrestling at all. They treat it like it's still the 40s and 50s. Burns makes an awful joke by looking at the viewer and basically saying that wrestling fans are complete morons. That really f***ing pissed me off. Bart joins Grandpa as a heel and apparently that makes him a bad kid(the pranks he's done for years mean nothing I guess). So Grandpa turns face(yes, I just said that) and Burns fights him in the end, with Bart making the face turn to save Grandpa. Really awful episode(as they usually are now), and an insult to Simpsons and wrestling fans everywhere. It ends with "Honest Abe" and "Liberty Boy", Grandpa and Bart, celebrating as it cuts to a crayon picture of them in Bart's room. Great, now he's a f***ing asshole who learns from stupid shit. Anyways, f*** this shit. It sucked. What do you guys think? Wrestling in pop-culture good or bad? *edit* please do not type round the filter again.

We have no problem with bad guys in wrestling mocking the fans, yet when a cartoon villain does it, we're all up in arms about it. I don't get it.

We have no problem with bad guys in wrestling mocking the fans, yet when a cartoon villain does it, we're all up in arms about it. I don't get it. It's because they went out of their way to do it. He looked directly at the viewer, and they even had 5 seconds of silence to make it sink. My real beef is that Simpsons used to be above this, with much better humor and satire. The idea of this awful Simpsons certainly doesn't just resonate with me, it's hit many fans. The joke was really dumb and I hate that it's coming from one of favorite shows(that's gone down the tube).

Hmm...I wonder would Hans Moleman work as a heel, or as a face?

I have no problem cracking jokes on my brother, but if someone outside the family does it, I'm gonna get pissed. That's my crummy analogy for it. *shrug*

There's also the irony of Burns making that statement, since he himself was pretty much invested in Grandpa Simpson's wrestling antics. In away, he's also kinda referring to himself as a "complete moron". (And hey, he got his comeuppance at the end)

I've never bought into the "Simpson's is crap now" attitude. There are weak episodes, sure, but there are still new episodes that are absolute gems.
I've never seen this episode, though, and I thought I'd seen them all. Anyway, Simpson writers take shots at everybody, an easy shot like wrestling is an obvious one. Any episode that uses insider terms like "baby face" and "heel", with reference to guys like Gorgeous George, is obviously coming from writers with a love for wrestling. I wouldn't sweat the "insult" too much.
And who cares that there's no references to modern wrestling? It's Abe and Mr Burns fighting. What do you want, X's on their hands?

Yes, but that hardly negates anything else. I just really do not like new age Simpsons(not Outlaws). As much as I like a good song, even Burns couldn't save this one for me. I miss the simplistic, home-grown humor from the older episodes. Maybe it's just me. What do you like about the new Simpsons, if you do based on you liking this episode?

Wasn't there a recent futurama episode were leela produces a kids tv show and she uses the term smart mark? In fact she uses this term whilst speaking to the guy who ran the robot wrestling federation in season 1 or 2. There was another wrestling reference in that episode but I can't remember it

I want to like the new Simpsons, as I like the old ones, but I just can't anymore. How do you know they didn't just see a story about WWE on the news or something, search up pro-wrestling on Wikipedia or something, saw Gorgeous George as one of the first names mentioned, the explanation of heels and faces, then just stopped right there and chucked out the episode? (It's a stretch) CM Punk being referenced in some sort of pop-culture would be very interesting, by the way.
