"Are they drunk? Did they forget this is the last season?" and "Why is this so boring?" and "Is my memory tricking me? Was this show ever good?" You too, huh? I think the truth is that Dexter always was a mixed bag. I think this season is teasing the audience with false leads towards the conclusion. I think Dexter's single biggest flaw is its disregard for continuity and character development. Nothing from one season really matters by the end of the next. Hell, by the middle they rarely matter. Dexter also has a problem of narratively treading water. Seasons 3, 5, and 6 don't really matter at all except for stuff at the beginning or end. If they weren't produced and you rearranged a few things, you'd have a stronger show. What if Dexter was ready to wed Rita until Trinity murdered her? What if Deb caught Dexter just as he killed Trinity? What if Dexter found closure in grieving for Rita when he found common ground with Isaac Sirko, who was also avenging the death of a loved one? What if Hannah played a strong contrast with the recently deceased Rita? Think of how much tighter the show could have been. I admit it's all hindsight though.

The last episode annoyed me {Spoiler}{Spoiler}During the sex scene we got no Yvonne Strahovski ass shot, but there was Micheal C Hall ass shot. That's not fair.

What do you guys think about the Dexter/Hannah relationship? Do you like it or think it plays like bad fan fiction? Honestly it has grown on me. I kind of want the show to end similarly to The Sopranos. I want Dexter and Hannah to run off together to Argentina with the last shot of the show being Dexter and Hannah sitting down to a nice, normal meal that Hannah cooked before the screen goes black and the show ends. To some, Dexter got the happiest ending someone like him could ever get. To the rest watching, he was poisoned to death for being stupid enough to trust someone that kills everyone that crosses her AFTER crossing her.

Dexter and Hannah is/was interesting. But I'd be lying if I said some of it doesn't come across like bad fan fiction, yeah.
I also find it interesting how repeatedly we've been given in this season, more so than any other, direct hints to the fact that Dexter isn't a "psychopath". Least not by the good doctor's definition of it.
The show's definitely toyed with the idea before. Doing some of the things the books did in having him not be as cold and emotionless as he likes to think and view himself as. But they've never gone to the extent the books went with exploring it.
Also, you'd think, that Rita would be a subject Dexter and the doctor would discuss. Or, she'd at least be mentioned at some point and she'd notice how, you know, Rita's death genuinely devastated Dexter. To the point where, I feel, he's still essentially healing from it and it's partially why he's been so rash & illogical in his latching onto Hannah & refusal to let go of her. Because he's had now twice in his life someone dear to him and that he loved killed.

Thought tonight's episode was great. We're in for a wild ride of a final 3 I think.

I've loved most of Dexter's love interests... I was a complete fangirl for Rita, I adored Lumen... heck, I even liked Lila in all her crazy glory. They've done a great job in the past, but the Dex/Hannah relationship feels like, as you said, bad fanfic. There's a lot of hypocrisy in trying to cast a killer of innocents, someone who doesn't follow the code and kills for fun and money, as a damsel in distress and a wronged martyr, both of which they've done with Hannah. Hannah's ending last year was perfect. They really shouldn't have brought her back.
But if I ignore that screwiness, this past episode was a lot of fun. Loved Vogel screwing over Dexter at the end for the sake of her son, love Deb's boss keeping on Hannah's trail for the sake of money, love how all this looks to be falling apart for the protags. It's been a slow season... hope these next 3 eps make up for it.

This might be the worst final season of anything ever (sans maybe Heroes), and maybe the worst season of the show. That's a pretty huge feat considering how bad the show has been (save Ray Stevenson carrying the show last season) since season 4.

I still think having another villain for him to chase is completely unnecessary for this season. The Brain Surgeon feels like a regular villain who could've shown up at any time in any season before this.

I'm just not feeling this season. The cliffhanger a few weeks back with Hannah's surprise return was the highlight of the season for me.

The Brain Surgeon feels like a regular villain who could've shown up at any time in any season before this. Yeah, he doesn't have the oomph to him that I feel a season long villain should have. And, how does it explain the other Brain Surgeon? Were they in cahoots? Or, was he a copy cat or...? Also, I would've preferred the theories I had... {Spoiler}Hannah turns Zach rogue and the two kill Dexter.
Hannah turns Dexter, and Zach in a symbolic moment has to put down Dexter.
In either scenario, you end with Dexter on the table, bringing it full circle. I'd even take the first scenario, but ending with Dexter having to kill both of them. Though it isn't as ideal, in my opinion.
Or, if they wanted to go a more "happy ending" route...
Hannah and Dexter becoming Zach's spiritual parents and the three of them continue on with their lives, getting into whacky hijinx. Now...I just feel like the show's going to go out with a whimper instead of a bang. Because it feels like we all know where it's likely to head, and it feels a lot like the show's going through the motions rather than giving a crap that it's the final season of a fairly prolific show.

I get the feeling nothing really important will be resolved and we're just going to get a normal, "Happily Ever After" ending that doesn't address any questions of seasons past and doesn't develop any characters and Dex will make yet another clean getaway because Deus Ex Machina said so.
It sucks too because they had the set up for Dex's heel turn and instead kept him as the sympathetic face.

Yeah, them losing their balls on the heel turn was so disappointing.

It would have made for a much better show, instead of making a guy who has killed about a hundred people seem like this always wonderful human being. Just ignore that he got a decent cop killed, his wife brutally murdered, abandoned his step kids because why not, ignores his son constantly, is directly responsible for destroying the life of the one person who has always been there for him and has killed a number of innocent people. Honestly, was it really so hard for this season to be about the cops hunting Dexter?

Given that the finale details have been leaked for weeks, I think it's safe to call this the worst final season of a show (sans Heroes) ever.
