I saw a report that the only FA the Giants will sign that cost a draft pick will be McCann. Why on earth will the Giants spend money on a catcher. So they could make Posey not a catcher and extend his career? Makes sense to me. But making Posey a full time 1B greatly reduces his value. It's one thing to sign a backup like Navarro who can play 2 times a week and moving Buster to 1B, it's another to make Buster basically a full time first baseman. Not to mention this will hurt their defense. Posey is well regard as a pretty good defensive C so moving him to first waste some of his talents and moving Belt to LF also hurts their OF defense. I'm not sure at this stage they need to think about moving Posey especially by paying someone 75+ M and getting rid of that 1st round pick.

But I certainly can see them wanting to extend Posey's career and reduce his risk of injury by getting him away from that position.

Sure and like I said there is nothing wrong with the Giants getting a strong backup C so they can give Buster 2 days off from Catching a week. I just don't think at this point, you start thinking about moving Buster permanently to another position, you keep him at C and extract as much value as you can from him at that spot.

The Mets made an interesting move today signing 30 year old AAA guy Anthony Seratelli. Undrafted guy out of Seaton Hall who played in the Independents for a few years before putting up good numbers for KC's AAA club. He plays every position but CF. Could be a nice utility man.

New York Daily News has another article calling for the Indians to kill off Chief Wahoo before the 2014 season, though the source they interviewed says they have no plans on doing so. I know we've had this conversation before, but honestly the Indians, if they're going to stay the Indians, need to meet up with representatives from the Native Americans and agree on -something- just so we can be done with this debate.
I agree with the offensiveness of the Chief and it's part of the reason I've been kind of meh about wearing an Indians hat outside of the ballpark, but right now the alternatives Cleveland has kind of... suck. Their C logo is probably the most bland of the old school-style logos in baseball and doesn't really stand out in a crowd, and the script I logo they had never took off and has kind of disappeared the last few years.
There's got to be -something- they can do to rebrand, though at least they're more likely to be able to stay the Indians versus say, the Redskins.

They can always revert to being the Cleveland Blues, which was a previous name in team history based on the color of their uniforms.

The Blues also explains the mood of Cleveland fans when they constantly miss the playoffs

I am looking for some people who would be interested in joining a fantasy baseball league that I'm the board president of to take over some teams that currently lack owners. I know MLB season just ended, but the league deadline for cutting all rosters down to 30 men is a little over month from now. It's hands down the best and most competitive fantasy baseball league I've ever been in. It's a 20 team league with contracts and a minor league system where players are win via bidding. Sparkybob is also in this league. If you're interesting in joining shoot me a message.

I always dug this entry for a UniWatch contest for potential new Cleveland names, which would basically recycle their defunct WNBA moniker:

That is the ugliest uniform I've ever seen. Also, other then the Rock HOF, does Cleveland really have that history?
Just get rid of Wahoo and change the name to the Natives. The team was named after Louis Sockalexis anyway.
Edit: Seems the Louis Sockalexis story is false. Not sure what to call them then.

Some of the other submissions were downright gruesome.

Matt Garza's elbow shouldn't be a deterrent to prospective teams, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal said the Rangers trading one of Ian Kinsler or Elvis Andrus is "starting to look inevitable."
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that according to Major League teams, Scott Boras is aiming to get Shin-Soo Choo a larger contract than Jayson Werth's $126 million deal with the Nationals.

If the Mets could get the money to work, I would LOVE Andrus. Gold glove type defense and has show he can hit too (thought the bat was cold this year.)

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Cardinals and Rockies are expected to meet during baseball's general manager meetings this week to discuss a potential trade involving superstar shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.
According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, even if the Yankees are unsuccessful in signing Brian McCann, they're expected to drive up the cost for the team that does secure his services.

I'd be just as happy with Elvis Andrus with the Cards as I would Tulo. He's younger and healthier, they've got plenty of good pitching the Rangers sorely need to make a trade plausible, plus all they need is a defensively steady SS who won't stink up the batter's box the way Kozma does (except for oddly opportune times). Plus as good as the Cards are at manufacturing runs usually, Elvis's speed wouldn't hinder that.

Actually the Ranger don't need more pitching. That's pretty set and cost controlled. They desperately need some OF bats.
