Santino in 2011. They took a comedy character and had people legitimately rooting for him and believing that he could win the Rumble.

Might have missed someone mentioning it, but wouldn't Diesel in 1994 be among the top?

2009 had Rey in for a while, but wasn't Mike Knox in for a while too?

That depends on if you enjoyed Diesel and Crush standing around doing nothing for half an hour Diesel eliminated something like six guys in ten minutes, wouldn't call that standing around doing nothing. That was the start of the Diesel push towards the title.

That was the start of the Diesel push towards the title. Yeah but he'd eliminate them in like 15 seconds so 1/4 of a minute * 6 implies Diesel would have 8 and a half minutes of nothing to do. I just REALLY hate that Rumble. Everyone in it came of as extremely lazy

santino nearly beating del rio to win it all hasn't come up yet? or was that a different battle royale i'm thinking of? Santino laying down for 90% of a match then teasing a surprise win was pretty much his entire gimmick at the time, though.

I couldn't tell you the exact years, but I was watching early to mid 1990s Rumbles earlier this week, and a few things that REALLY surprised me were Henry Godwinn and Kama making final fours (in 95 and 94respectively I think, could be wrong) and Make a Difference Fatu lasting like forever and eliminating a bunch of people.

I know it was in a different era of Rumbles (free TV, only 20 guys in it), but watching Bret Hart going 25+ minutes in a 33-minute Royal Rumble was one of the things that made you start to take notice of the guy. McMahon would keep reminding us every so often "...and Bret Hart is still in there".
(In case you were wondering, Jake Roberts was the second-longest at 21 - but he has 22 - minutes. And One Man Gang had the most eliminations at 6. All three had some sort of push attached to it in 1988.)

I always thought they had a mid-card guy last until the final four to make it seem like anybody could win the Rumble.

X-Pac made the final three of the 2000 Royal Rumble, although he was eliminated earlier by Kane but the referees didn't see it.

Vince didn't have a good performance though. He was outside most of it.
